Did anyone feel bad for Hawthorne playing 3rd fiddle in the baseball broadcast?

Jim is the play by play guy for innings 1-3 and 7-9

Who's the 3rd guy?

It was one of the a&m games, I was in the car for about an inning I guess. One guy was doing pbp (assume it was hanagriff), then another guy was commentating. Hawthorne would chime in every now and then but very infrequently.

No lie. Anyone who has paid an ounce of attention knows that at home, Hawthorne and someone else have worked the games (Hanagriff, Wright, etc.) and the "other guy" does play-by-play for the middle innings and on the road, Hawthorne and Franques do the whole game together. This year it seems like they have added a former player to the mix to provide a 3-man booth, so it figures during the middle innings, Hawthorne would have less to say and can go eat a hot dog or something.

The 3rd guy has been, at different times this year, any one of Ronnie Rantz, Doug Thompson, and even Buzzy Haydel I think.

I bet it was buzzy because pretty sure I know Ronnie and Doug's voices. Do you have any idea why they had 3 of them in there? I assumed they are trying different combinations to feel it out for next year or whatever. I know Hawthorne historically did pbp first few innings and last few innings and was sole commentator in middle innings. This was different, he was a 3rd wheel.
