It is not the network but the channel being transmitted. The lower VHF(2-6) channels in general are easier to pickup than the higher channels (7-13) and the UHF channels(14 and above) are very finnicky also.
By the way, all HD antennas do not pick up BOTH VHF and UHF. Some are either/or. Some are both. Be careful in antenna selection.

I picked up CBS very well on the north side of the PMAC with an amplified antenna.
