Why would you ever take a dynamic playmaker off of your offense to play on defense?

It seems every year some on these boards want to move a stellar offensive player to LB.

In White's case it would be a tremendous waste ofhis talent. A RB like him doesn't come along often. A LB like him is average.

clark.........are you serious? He wont get a snap last year on offense. Running back is an instinct position. he could literally play LB next year as a spot player and move back to running back at any time and not miss a beat.

And how short sighted can you possibly be? I know they are morons everywhere on this site, trolls and the like. but rarely do I read a post that was well intentioned (which yours was) and fails as miserably as yours just did

most say he's a better LB than RB.

Why any kid would play RB over LB is beyond me. Take the LB money and longer playing career and run with it.

It would be a serious waste of talent to put Devin on the bench behind LF and Guice.
Put him on the field.

OP is right. Once he plays a down on defense he is ineligible to ever play offense.

Exactly. Look at David Ducre. 6' 240 pounds, 10.8 100m. How many snaps did he see?

A couple of points that each side is missing:

1. A RB is NOT a bigger factor than a LB.
2. Next year's depth chart has nothing to do with this. It's the 2017/18 depth charts that matter, and we'll be thin at RB and LB. You guys saying he can make a big impact at LB next year have such short memories. Here are the last few great LB's we've had along with the years it took before they were impactful:
Beckwith - 1.5
Minter - 1.5
Debo - 3
Alongside that, Clifton Garrete (SP) was a "Big Time" recruit - bigger than Fowler, Divinity, or White - and he'll NEVER amount to shite.

how will we be thin in 2017 at RB?

Guice, Williams, Brossette, Ducre and whatever RBs we recruit next year. We probably take at least 2 RBs next year.

Its simply a fact that more often than not a dominant running back is going to win you more games than a dominating linebacker

Nope.

I actually agree with all of your points except one. Other than Lawrence Taylor, can anybody even name another linebacker they have seen win games for a team that is basically average without that one player?

Many good linebackers have come through the NFL over the years, but the only one I ever personally witnessed actually win games single handedly was Lawrence Taylor.

I remember games where their offense couldn't score a point, and he was so dominant rushing the passer he literally won the game for them. On top of that he would pick off a pass or something and return it for a TD to win the game.

We don't need him to be the star of the defense and single-handedly win games at linebacker. Just need him to be good. He's good. There ya go.

the chances of him EVER being a "dynamic" playmaker, in the SEC, at RB, at 250lbs is slim to none.

Now if he loses 20lbs, sure.

if he wants to play LB, he could drop 10-15 and be ready to go, and fill a need.

The fact that you thinking putting talent on defense is not worth it is troubling.

Not only does White playing LB help us, but it also helps him. There are so many RBs in the NFL. Way more than needed. One of the many reasons they have low staying power. A lot of really good backs don't get massive contracts because teams feel unless you are top notch they can play someone else. Being a stud LB and the anchor of your defense can be in the league for a long time.

Because Ray Lewis was a 6'0 235 pound runningback that signed with Miami and went down as the best mlb ever to play the game.

Right. What if he is more like Hilliard at RB?

I think he'll get a look on offense in the fall and unless he looks great he'll be moving to LB
