We only need Mouton

He would seem to be a top candidate for a switch. He is the worst fullback I've seen at LSU since the early 90s.

That's fine. I only included him with JDM because he was the #2 behind Moore this year and has the only snaps in the position among the backups.

This is why he should be moved:

Unfortunately, good linebackers do things integral to a team other than play on defense. As we discovered this year a good and deep linebacker unit is indispensable on special teams.

Special teams is a mindset. Any player from any position with a little talent and just will to do so can dominate special teams. Jacob Hester, Steltz, Jarvis Landry, Guice this year all non linebackers that were very good ST players.

Outside of Mintor who wasn't that great in 2011 the other linebackers on that team were not overly talented but they had a dominant d-line and shut down secondary. Above average at two can cover up average at one.

Guice helped him out on that second one.

Seems like some freshman mistakes on the first two (hesitating between choosing the right guy to block). JDM would have blown up both tacklers on the second one. That last one would have been a solid LB tackle if he would have gone for it (obviously it would have been a hold as a FB).

Sign him up. They are all interchangeable as backups to JDM, and hopefully we never need them.

It takes talented people to be special teamers. Just because people act like it is all about some stupid boilerplate intangibles doesn't make it so. One of the issues given our depth problems this year is we had to move Adams, Beckwith, Jones, and the Duke to cover kicks. It is more than getting pumped up and running down.

No kid comes to LSU that doesn't have great talent. It might not be good enough to be a starter on O or D but if they have the right mindset they can use their talents on special teams.

It isn't just about mindset. I think Will Clapp has the mindset of an absolute warrior. He can't play special teams for us. The guys you listed in your earlier post as being good on special teams were talented guys. It wasn't their mindset. You need to be fast and able to tackle. Those are physical attributes. You need to be disciplined and not try to do too much. That's a mental attribute.

The point of all of this is linebackers will generally have the skills you want to cover kicks. That's why you see them on specialty units.

Then why not make signing a couple of good JUCO linebackers a priority in recruiting? Has there been any discussion of this?

we need about 4 300lb+ DT's

That's downright inexcusable to be left with those guys.

Can't imagine someone that timid being a good down hill linebacker either

That second one was hilarious with Guice just moving him out of the way

Don't worry the usual suspects will be here soon to tell you how it's not Leslie's fault.

It is his fault.

But the haters will tell you he is all over the offense yet hands complete control of the defense over. So if you are not going to give any credit to Les for the defense, then its only fair he gets zero blame.

Devin Voorhies will be a star LB before it's said and done. With his speed and size he could step in for Debo next year.
