Falcons second-round LB Deion Jones is up to 230 pounds. He weighed in at 222 at the Combine. Bracing for his role as the Falcons' starting middle linebacker, Jones is trying to bulk up a bit without losing his 4.4 speed. He's a dark horse for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Another guy who will start at MLB for an NFL team, but rode the bench at LSU while Welter was on the field.

Why Chavis kept him and Beckwith off the field is beyond me.

Beckwith was the next guy, as he shoudl be

The real gripe is how the hell did Lamar Louis start so many games ahead of him.

He was the best LB we had since his soph year. Should have started alongside Beckwith and Kwon for 3 years

great qualities, but essentially meaningless if he doesn't possess the physical skills to play at this level.

D.Jones probably didn't know the playbook. Welter was a genius

Is that why he missed a season due to being academically ineligible?

I like Jones, but if he's your starting middle on you better have two great tackles to keep linemen off him. Shedding blockers isn't his strength.

Not even close to true, but commonly said by folks who don't know shite about football.

Deion Jones was barely 200 lbs back then. Beckwith was visibly confused every time he was on the field, causing us to play 9 against 11 - both Beckwith and Mills were being taken out of plays, Beckwith because he didn't know where to go and Mills because he was out of position trying to make himself heard by Beckwith.

Our main problem wasn't at linebacker at all. We had a freshman and a sophomore playing the two DT spots. They were getting moved around a lot and pushed back into the linebackers. It's impossible for a linebacker to be successful under those conditions.

Maybe they could have moved Kwon to middle and replaced him with Debo. But they still would have been run over with those DTs (same two we are expected to start two years later, BTW).
