Wow. Ummm....no.

Even if they are young, we brought in a HAUL last year...not to mention Allen, rasco, Mickey, Quentin and who ever else I am forgetting. We have one or two from this year that COULD provide depth. But bower, lacoture, Bain, Gilmore etc.

Yeah. We're gonna suck bad there!

I thought this thread was going to be about the guys on the 2014 Lsu football roster, and how they were rated with Rival's 2011 rankings.

I could also agree that the talent on the roster next year will be very comparable to 2011.

In 2015 I think the defense will be more comparable to 2006 then 2011. The past 2 years we have gone after somewhat bigger guys in the front seven and taller/bigger safeties and cbs.

Take away Matthieu from 2011 and the defense is not as good. But someone like Ron brooks can pull most the slack. I see more talent (out of high school anyway), on the defensive side then 2011. Man for man, they will be just as talented. If they develop of course.

Valentine
Adams
Paris
Garrett

Are all five star talents. I'll just stop there. That's one at every level. Voohries, Clark and Godeaux will make a lot of noise. Among others.

I think he's saying a positive. LSU has been stacked at DT in the last 10 years so him saying "as suspect as" means not suspect at all.

I think closer to the 2012 defense, which was still very good. Not 2011 though.

Not necessarily, mills could still slide down and we just bring in another safety. That's what we did in the bowl game

Sunshine pumping at its finest. People said our DTs would b great last year and our defense would be better than anybody expected.

I really believe Harron will be our new Brockers and could be better if he is coachable. Brockers was a technician with body control and his hands. Having Logan didn't hurt either, I think they could be even better than the 2011 squad but not this year. We could be surprised at how quick they develop and I hope I am. I think they will be better than last year, depth wise anyway. I'm hearing good things about Big Frank! 6'5 305 lean/mean. And I know his wing span and overall length will help him control lineman.

So we realistically expect one of our RS FR to become first round talents even though we have never seen them step on the field?

Do you see how absurd those expectations are?

I expect our young guys at DT to play and be serviceable, but I do not expect them to be a strong point.

Brockers is an anomaly.

Welter was coming on last year but I expect he will get passed up by either Garret or Beckwith this year. Dt's will be better than last year. Locoture will be better than either Freak or Ego was last year and somebody else out of Herron, Q Thomas, Bain or Gilmore will step up. There is also that big freshman Valintine. DE's are proven and are all returning. LB's will be better than last year by a lot with Beckwith, Debo, Kwon, and Garrett. Starting corners are stars in the making and Thomas is very under rated backup. Also plenty of top flight talent to choose from at safety even if inexperienced (other than Martin).
overall the defense will be way way better than last year but better than 2011? No way, but still one of the better defenses in the SEC (and thus the country)

Anyone who didn't see flashes of competence bordering on good play towards the end of the season simply didn't want to see it.

He always seems to be around the ball - sometimes he's going the wrong way, sometimes he whiffs on a tackle, sometimes he gets trucked, but he is often the first, second or third guy to the ball carrier and that is encouraging. He did seem to start clicking near the end, although I saw flashes throughout.

He is the quarterback of the defense - he can do 4 or 5 things correctly for every mistake, but the 1 mistake will be glaring and obvious.

Welter always gets blasted (a lot of which deserved based onplay,) but he was the qb on D and setting up alignments, but Barrow was almost as bad. We may have gotten some great 5 star players coming in, but they are still unproven.

Biggest question surrounding this D is weather we get some younger DT's to step up, and if our DE's can get more pressure on the qb. Think LB and secondary play will be better and be the strength of this defense.
