First left me preface this by saying all judgement of Coach Steele from everyone, myself included, should be at bay until at least a full season is under his belt. In reality, it should be at least two-three years before you can really evaluate a coordinator.

That being said, Coach Steele's record as a coordinator is fairly mediocre at best. Now at the schools he coached at weren't necessarily defensive minded schools. I'm talking more of the hire itself. I want to hear feedback about the hire. The hire seemed very strange. Coach Steele himself said that he knew what was going on with Chief while it was happening, so obviously our coaching staff did as well.

LSU is a top 5 program. Easy destination school. Many big names in theory should be lining up at the door to coach here, especially with the heavy recruiting we have done as well as having finished #1 in total defense with tons of returning starters. Why weren't more big names or up and coming coaches given the job or at least in the running? Seemed as if all of our options were.. Meh at best. The coordinator spot at LSU is a big stepping stone to get a major offer for a HC job: Bo Pel ended up as HC of Nebraska. Kirby smart went from cornerbacks coach to defensive coordinator at the premiere program in Alabama. Just feel we should have had a homerun hire- at least on paper.

I have nothing against CKS. Really like his enthusiasm and have a complete open mind going into the season. What are your thoughts?

No one knows how this hire will work out, but if the guy is good enough to be hired by NS twice...he's probably not a "mediocre" coach.

this is a typical CLM hire
Get use to it

CLM will not hire anyone he does not have a relationship to, will not cowtow to his coaching insanity or anyone who could upstage him.

CLM is a type of a control freak but a different type than Saban( who is a perfectionist control freak)

CLM controls things that don't need controlling and does not control things that do need controlling

That being said- He is our coach , it is a new season

Is Coach O the typical Les Miles hire?

Comparing Lane Kiffin's hire to Kevin Steele's hire. Who has the best record? It's up to both Kiffin and Steele to produce.

I would be willing to bet down the line that we find out the Coach O hire was not CLM's doing

I know there's a lot more to a hire than just resume and experience. Chemistry, scheme, etc.. Just surprised other big names weren't clamoring for the job. Just strange. I would love to take over a defense that returns just about everyone, is young and experienced, oh and just finished #1

My thoughts are after failing with Chavis on some of the most important moments of big games it was time for a change at LSU. It was brought about with a myriad of circumstances and events that have led us through this time. I look forward to a stout defense this year.

that's always the theory, but seldom reality. IMO the "bigger" names that Les interviewed probably wanted more autonomy with respect to assistants than Les was willing to give.

And I actually can see that both ways. In one regard, I'm hiring you. I'm picking the coaches. Especially somewhere as highly rated as LSU. Why would you want to get rid of the guys we already have.

But on the reverse, how can you expect a coach to fully teach the positions his scheme if the assistants aren't all on the same page.

Demoted by NS after one year at the DC position. He was then fired by Clemson as DC after two years. Then rehired by bama the university in an administrative capacity, not by Saban. He then backed his way into the inside linebackers job the following year then Les hires him as our DC.

1. I applaud the your timely post.
2. I applaud your starting the day with yet another Rant conspiracy.
3. I applaud one more inane shot at Les Miles.
4. I applaud your being able to type so well considering the level of mental impairment you have.

Huzzah to you.

Obviously, you are not objective. LSU is not a top 5 program. Maybe to 10, but not a sure thing.

Cooper, Raymond, Cameron, and Chavis weren't his doing either huh? Miles has lost control of hiring assistants!
