Defense is key

I fully expect to see a NASTY defensive front with CRAZY help from the linebackers...... Beckwith, Louis, and Debo will tear up anything trying to get to the middle. Davon and LaCoutoure will be superb. Secondary will once again claim DBU. However, depth seems to be an issue. Referring back to the spring game, the two's looked lost. We will wait and see, but I believe the defense will prosper under Orgeron/Steele/Raymond

Depth is an issue for most teams in spring games because you are literally splitting your team in half, plus you don't have you're recruiting class except for maybe 1 or 2 EEs. Most of those "twos" you saw were more likely 3rd or 4th teamers and some were even walk ons.
And we were the #1 D in the SEC last year and return 7 starters from that team. It should "prosper". If they aren't at/near the top of the SEC again, then there's a problem.

Was referring to Orgeron reviving the line, teaching fundamentals, and just making them work aggressively. Haley didnt seem like he cared anymore

Dude, if travonte valentine is on the field this year, this defense is gonna be nasty.

Other than perhaps Ratphuc, Mr Valentine is the best player that has never taken a snap at LSU.

He's gonna take players like Gilmore, Lewis Neal, and Herron and make them great players when maybe they would've underachieved under Haley. And then guys like Godchaux, Bower, and Valentine will become high draft picks

I've seen lots of people who would really know say that Valentine is a badarse. And I believe it. Dude was a monster at the Army All American game. You plug him in next to Godchaux/Lacotoure and suddenly yards up the middle are tough to come by with Beckwith behind them

Lac is going into his 3rd season as a starter and has been very solid for us.
Godchaux was excellent as a true freshman and considering that he was coming off an ACL tear his senior year and missed a lot of summer workouts due to that, he could take a big step for us next year. Godchaux could be flat out dominant for us. Kids a stud and has big time written all over him.
There's still Valentine as well. If he's cleared, that would be a huge boost to our DL.
QT healthy and howpfully stays healthy.
And you still have Herron and Gilmore, who were true sophomores last season. They should be improved and it could start to click for 1 or both of them.
They all should be improved. May not be a "nasty" group, but still could def be very good. And Godchaux will be nasty.

I remember reading somewhere we Beckwith would be the only LB and he would be called the Bull. His role would be to just bullrush and clog the lanes. It was in a reading but I cant remember. Steele mentioned several plays and that was one formation

Usually when you change coordinators, communication issues and/ or new systems result in breakdowns at key times in games. I expect the defense to take a slight step back this year, but must improve next. If it doesn't improve next, I'll promote Coach O to coordinator and Steele will be back to position coach.
The offense will take some of the slack and improve this year. Will be fun!

Everyone in the know says if things stay on track he'll be on the field

That was said a few months ago when the spring semester was winding down. He needed to finish the spring semester strong and he then would be eligible. Spring semester has been finished for a while now and Valentines status hasn't changed as far as we know.
And remember before spring football started, Les said Valentine isn't someone we are counting on and some people seem to think he might never play for LSU.
I hope he's squared away in the classroom because he's got massive size that we miss and would boost our DL. But I'm not gonna get excited about him until word comes out that he's cleared, eligible, and ready to roll.

And I can't wait for all the nay-sayers to eat....well, you fill in the blank...lol

I expect to see more rotation on the line. Lacouture and Godchaux are good tackles but we need to be able to sub. Gilmore and Herron's development are so important.
