I agree that White and Robinson are our soon-to-be lock down corners for remainder of the season assuming they can stay healthy and continue to improve. That will help stabilize the defense and limit big plays by the opponent. We can still use Mills for obvious passing downs and we'll be solid. That's a good start. Props to Chavis for having a strong grasp for the obvious and changing up the personnel. He's the best in the business for a reason. Hail to the Chief once again. 2nd half defensive "play calling" and execution were brilliant!

Looks like most of the Rantards here in cyber space should have been or could have been coaches. Getting good rotation and extra bodies on the defensive front helped keep our stars fresh and MState out of the end zone in 2nd half. Great pressure up front. It was encouraging to see more blitz packages and extra pressure on their QB's in 2nd half. Major props!

So..... can we expect more changes down the proverbial college football road this season. You bet! Barrow and Alexander are entrenched at their positions and I like what they bring to the table - intensity, leadership, talent, and speed. Barrow does get burned on coverage more often than I would like but he's still a player you want out there in crunch time. Would like to see someone else step up and get some reps like Beckwith - soon!

We have probably/arguably the best offense ever at LSU this season and if we can just hang around defensively and continue to "fight like hell" as Miles puts it we can/should win the west and hopefully face Georgia again with chance to play for the BCS title THIS season. Now is the time to get the best personnel out on the field defensively. I think we will see more changes again Sat. It's the only thing standing in our way IMHO. Anyone else have a take on the defense feel welcome to chime in. I've said my peace (sic).

More blitzing and more nickle with white and Robinson on the outside.

More rotating Bower, Beckwith, and Hunter at DE and Thomas and Lacotoure at DT. Keep the guys fresh

Kwon and Barrow as the two LBers in the nickle look.

And also Loston needs to stay on the bench

Loston on the bench? I think the new head-hunting penalty or helmet-to-helmet has hurt his aggressiveness. He's still a player that can help IMHO. That would be a very bold move if the coaching staff made the decision to sit him (Senior pegged as potential All-American before the season). Every season is different. Hopefully the guy is just hurt and when healthy later in the season will be on the field to help the Tigers win out!

Was more impressed by Thompson save the TD he gave up where he basically covered the guy too closely than I have with Loston the whole season. Loston just hasn't been the same since he blew out his knee

Did you just say, based on what?

Anyway, I think the second half was the turning point last week. Only 3 points given up in the second half on the road.

I think we throttle Florida this weekend. And the defense plays it's best game ever.

yes the defense will just continue to improve for here on out. The personel changes that needed to be made have been made for the most part. Robinson, White, Thompson, Martin somewhat solidifies the secondary. Kwon and Barrow as the primary LB's and rotating in Thomas and LoCotoure more at DT helps there. Add in some solid situational players in Mills, D Thomas, Beckwith, Jefferson, Louis, Debo, and Bowers for depth. If we could find a MLB replacement we would be solid. Anyway this is what we are working with and we just have to accept the talent level is going to be average at best, but let Chavis work with these guys and bring out the best in them. We should be OK and at least slow down some of these offenses enough to allow our offense to win the games for us.

IMO the Defense was worse then it was against UGA for the most part. UGA just has a much better offense. Even in the second half, it was more to do with our offense getting a big lead forcing them to throw the ball more (which MSU obviously sucks at). Prescott was missing Wide open receivers. We have a long way to go. I do think we will get better, because Chavis is a great coach. We just need to start seeing it and seeing it quick.

DrD if you see improvement in the defense you must be watching old tape from last year. Improvement you talking improvement, in the first half they missed a combined 25 tackles, and the second half was just as bad. I understand the fact of being positive, but just fabricating improvement is just plain crazy.

Not reading it all because I'm lazy

BUT

I will say I think those two guys are the future at the position. White is getting better every week and we are just now seeing what Robinson can do. I think they are our number 1 and 2 guys going into Florida. If they can play man coverage consistently, maybe we can start blitzing more and potentially getting a little pressure on opposing qbs finally.

Missed tackles were definitely a problem last week. That's one area this D needs to focus on this week is wrapping up and hitting low.

It has too - Florida's offense is awful.

Where was the blitz packages the last drive of the Georgia game? Corners getting beat, safeties getting beat, linebackers backing up and leaving the middle wide open, DB's playing 10 plus yards off of the receivers and no pressure. It's a great strategy.

We gave up 468 yards to Miss State, the defense didn't improve. They were aided by a missed FG at the end of the 3rd and 2 turnovers that helped lead to 28 points in the 4th. MSU has also struggled on offense in the 4th quarter of games.

They'll get another chance to improve next week though

I may give him partial credit for his injury - but, seriously, the safety play looked better with him out. I hate it, because I love his attitude, but when you can't play a game and the position group looks better - the mirror shines pretty brightly.
