Brody Miller

quote:

Interim #LSU coach Brad Davis says Garrett Nussmeier is taking reps and LSU is "working through things" to possibly allow Nussmeier to play the Texas Bowl and keep his redshirt.

If the redshirt doesn't get approved, Davis implies LSU would play someone else at QB.

quote:

With Max Johnson gone #LSU has to either play freshman Garrett Nussmeier in what would be his 5th game or turn to one of its walk-on quarterbacks, most likely.

So this is interesting.

What could they possibly work out?

Why is the redshirt so important? I feel like they are not telling us everything

I heard Hester say on the radio they can ask the NCAA for a waiver that would allow him to retain his redshirt

Nussmeier needs to step up and play. Period. Are you a team guy or a me guy? You could be a 3 year starter and impress your new coach.

Hester & T-Bob mentioned that LSU could try to apply for a waiver given the roster issues

Does a redshirt really matter anymore with the Transfer portal? The odds of LSU holding onto Nuss his whole Collegiate career seems pretty slim.

I suppose they could file a specific petition to waive the rule for the bowl game. For example, it really has no implication on the national championship. If the other team consented to the waiver, the NCAA may allow it.

I'm just speculating but if I were one of LSU's lawyers and the university asked me, that's the first thing that occurred to me.

Travis Daniels blew his RS in the SEC Championship Game. If this kid is willing to sit because he thinks he'll need 5 years to get NFL ready, then let's run the wildcat and move on to Howard.

Just roll with Kirklin… we should be able to beat K-State with mainly option stuff

Isn’t this an opportunity for Nuss?

If I'm Nuss, I'm not worrying about a redshirt. Here is a great opportunity to start a bowl game, play well and put something good on tape besides the bad ending to the Arky game. It's a chance for him to show what he can do with a month of prep and might be the best thing he can do with a 5-star QB coming in and another likely transfer QB.

Redshirts are a luxury. We don't have that luxury right now with no other QB on the roster. Nuss is a QB. He is on the team. He should play if he is part of the team.

There is a walkon QB from South FL. If we see him that would be pretty wild

Brody or someone else needs to find out who is trying to preserve the redshirt, because that's 2 totally different scnearios

1) Nuss and family refuse to play without losing RS - tells you they are definitely trying to be in the best possible position for a future transfer if needed

2) Kelly/LSU pushing for it - they may not want to waste a potential future year on a game that the outcome has absolutely no bearing on the future of the program

I really can't see the NCAA approving this.
It is a byproduct of the transfer portal so maybe common sense kicks in.

We have no idea if this is a team thing or a me guy thing. I'd hate for the kid to burn a redshirt on a stupid fricking bowl game, especially given LSU's current lack of depth in the QB room

Kinda makes sense, otherwise why worry about the RS. But if he wants 4 years eligibility somewhere else, then it’s a thang, this sounds like his dad is managing this.
