Flynn averaged 30 passes per game which is the same that DE16 threw against MSU.

Flynn's average rating for the season was 125.8 (2007) which is lower than DE's rating against MSU (134.5). If DE16's MSU game is his average game, that is may be good enough for a respectable season with 3 more close losses.

LSU will play tougher teams than MSU but I see DE16 and the team as a whole improving as the schedule gets tougher.

MY PREDICTION FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE THE SEASON

Right now, I predict a 9-3 season. I see LSU losing to Alabama and one of OM, Ark, aTm. That will be 6-2 in the SEC (3 way tie 2nd place in SEC West).

LSU and Miles will go their separate ways because it is time. Miles has run his course. I think he will "resign" to save face. He will have a respectable exit and a buyout will be negotiated. It's time for both parties to move on for the common good. I think even can see that now which is why he seems a little depressed and is not himself.

Job is offered to Herman but he goes to Texas (Strong Fired). Jimbo is content and remains at FSU.

The OSU head coach pipeline continues and Mike Gundy becomes LSU's next coach. Gundy keeps defensive staff in place, brings with him an exciting new but balanced offence. Aranda has defense top 10 nationally. LSU wins SEC in 2018 and in CFB playoff.

Something that really impressed me was (read it here in some thread) Etling's work ethic. Honestly, it reminded me of Bregman when I read it. Certainly not saying he's got the same level of skill, but damned if he's not working his butt off to be the best he can possibly be.

As revered as Flynn is for delivering a NC, the dreaded combination of Lee and Jefferson in 2011 - 165-267 (62%), 2,043 yds (7.8 YPA), 20 TD and 5 INT was more actually efficient than Flynn in 2007 - 202-359 (56%), 2,407 yds (6.7 YPA) 21 TD and 11 INT. Scary thought.

Interesting point. BUT, Flynn (and the offense) was pretty consistent throughout the season and he provided steady leadership. Compared to Jefferson/Lee '11, I think Les Miles let Flynn have a "longer leash" b/c had more confidence that Flynn wouldn't lose the game. In addition, Flynn played well at the NC game, unlike Jefferson who was basically a "no show."

but Etling might have more mobility.

That's hard to say. IIRC, Flynn had a lingering ankle injury most of the /07 season that reduced his mobility.

n Flynn's championship year he was a 5th year player at LSU, and this is Danny's 4th year.

Danny has played in twice the number of games as Flynn. Flynn played mop behind Russell his Sophomore year and then beat Miami in the Bowl game. He played sparingly his Junior year.

Etling has much more upside. Let's not forget that LSU doesn't win the NC in 2007 if Ryan Perriloux doesn't step up and win the SECCG.

Flynn didn't face anything similar to Bama '11 D.
The guy completed 65% of what the D gave him while under duress from OL fail all night and LSU didn't have an option that would've fared any better.
I think an immobile QB would have resulted in a bigger blowout.

It's all on Miles for not recruiting better QB's, he inherited Flynn and Russell, he got Mett because he booted out of UGA and he got Etling from Purdue.
QB recruiting has not been good under Miles, too many misses.

Les tends to swing for the fences, wants a Perilloux or a Harris (another way to say it is he's looking for Desean Watson). Dynamic runner who can make all the passes. If he would connect, we'd have a fantastic offense.

2 problems there; first is that a lot of those guys are just not that bright and/or used to working, they've been able to get by on talent. You don't know if you get the "right one" until he's here, and then it's too late to look back.

Second problem is that bringing these guys in will make the "pretty good/solid" class of QB look elsewhere, where they will get a shot to play. And then, when the big name doesn't pan out, you end up with the college backup type as your new starter.

If Les would aim a little lower, you could bring in 2-3 guys like Etling (a 4 star, not a 5 star). Nobody would be thinking they didn't have a chance, so more would come. And most likely, one would pan out, and you get a good (not spectacular) offense.

Crazy that we lost to Kentucky & Arkansas that year and still made it to the championship.

Etling has a fairly weak arm. Flynn could chunk it

Matt had 3 years in the program before he started didn't he? Danny still got some time to develop. Mid year will be a good time to compare

It wasn't Perriloux it was a defensive back that won that game.

True but the 2007 sec was much better than 2011. Pretty much all the teams in 11 had freshman QBS and bama was the only real threat that year. 2007 we lost to uk and arky considered lower level team but even those 2 teams were pretty competitive. Arky with McFadden hillis and jones and Kentucky with Woodson Stevie Johnson Jacob tamme. You also had tebow at Florida aurburn and ole miss were tough too. So while slightly more efficient Flynn still had more yards against a much better sec.

Maybe you should go back and check the game tape. I don't know why people have so much trouble admitting that it was Ryan Perrilloux, not Matt Flynn, that ultimately got LSU to the NC game.
