The lack of a talented QB in Baton Rouge in a while has really blinded some of you.
Danny is not a good QB.
Any throw over 20yds is under thrown 90% of the time. He can’t throw the out. He’s 50/50 on pocket pressance. He doesn’t notice his check down half the time.
Is he a leader? Sure. Is he a tough competitor? Sure.
He’s a below average to average QB. And the SEC isn’t exactly overflowning with talented QBs.
Is he our best option? Yep, and we’re going to support him no matter what.
But let’s be realistic when calling him good or great.

Regardless of his ranking in the SEC, there isn't a team left on the schedule that fears Etling in any capacity, and that's okay.

He needs to take advantage of the big plays when they're there, and this team can quite possibly finish the season strong. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I’m happy we have Etling, especially after dealing with the likes of Jefferson, Jennings and Harris.
I would rank Etling higher than them of course.

Like I said he’s our best option, but he needs more help from the Oline and the receivers.

For years we heard how our QBs were progressing from spring to fall or year to year and we were disappointed with the same product. I think Etling is the first QB in a while to actually progress.

It’s refreshing to see. I look forward to watching Brennan and/or Lowell though, in the future.

Stats are a little skewed because the coaches try to let only let him throw to wide open receivers and 50/50 deep balls, but I'll take it. And I agree with everyone saying he plays with everything he's got, and that's all we can ask. Thanks, DE.

He sucks. Fake news.

What's ironic is that my money is on Etling hand to hand vs. you...no knuckle-check required.

and he's a fricking QB.

I love him. I’m glad we have him too. But sometimes it’s ugly. He hit a defender in the back with a throw against Auburn. The dude was 8 yards from the intended receiver. Some of his throws are hideous. It’s just a fact.

I'm not saying Etling is better than Hodson, Tommy Hodson was the greatest QB to ever play at LSU. He wasn't the most talented or best prospect but he was the best college QB we ever had. I'm simply saying that Etlings passing efficiency is better, footballs rules have changed and passing offenses have evolved and that's the reason Hodsons numbers take a back to some of the modern guys but the fact remains Etling is moving the ball through the air at a more efficient rate than Tommy did in any of his years at LSU. The better comparison is Flynn same rules apply for both he and Etling and Etlings passer rating is 20 points higher than Flynns championship season. If Etling is the QB in 07 or 2011 both those teams go undefeated easily.

Etling does the same thing with his WRs.
to be fair, his receivers stink. dillon and sullivan both quit on a route against auburn. midway through the dang season. they are lazy, not getting separation, dropping passes, not fighting through blocks, etc. they have bailed etling out a good bit but, their laziness seems to me to be a bigger problem. danielson pointed that out when moreau didn't come back to etling, it gave the defender a chance to knock the pass down. that could have been a first down.

Ignorant

Lee wasn't shite on in 08?
People called for mett to be benched in 2012
Danny definitely has his fair share of detractors

If Malachi would have stayed and if we would have a healthy and deep OL, Danny would be leading the league in QB efficiency. His job would just be to drive the ship as Matt Mauck and Matt Flynn did!!

That’s an insult to Mauck and Flynn. Both were better.

It is truly shocking to read some of these comments. People who know nothing about football and less about playing QB talk about Etling’s arm strength and performance and “consistency “ as if they know what they’re talking about.
He’s a good quarterback and better at what he does than you are at what you do. Enjoy
