It probably has more to do with the fanbase than the school

New York City is the biggest city in the country, and most of the city's biggest sports fans could give two shits about college football.

A friend of mine was on LSU's basketball team at that time and I promise you that Daddy Dale never did any of what Lester Earl claimed. I think LE even took back all of the allegations didn't he. I know alot of people didn't believe hime though.

Well, all I can say about that is, there has never been a coach at the Div 1 level, who is successful, that hasn't taken a chance on a player with a sketchy past. It happens. Do you really blame RW for taking a chance on a player of LE's talent?

Although Dale did a lot to build up LSU as a basketball school/program, his last 5 years or so, did more to create the indifference among fans than anything or anyone.

RW was the one who got Earl to make crap up about his recruitment so that Dale would let him out of his scholarship.

Interesting comment about Chris Jackson. Dale gave him a copy of the Malcolm X book that started his conversion to Muslim.

You can thank Johnny Jones for all of that.

JJ was on Dale's staff. He is responsible for his staff, so he has to take some of the blame

I agree. But the press, and fans accepted that this was all a desperate attempt by Dale Brown to hang on to a dwindling program. Dale Brown was a stand up guy, and a fenomenal ambassador for LSU and basketball in general. They hung him out to dry. I love Dale Brown, and they way the school, fans and the state turned it's back on him made me sick.

What a fricking liar. Our grass has been shitty for over 5 years now and apparently the athletic dept. doesn't give a shite.

In all fairness, when he was coach we did have some beautiful grass in Tiger Stadium.

Lester Earl wasn't that great of a talent. I saw him play from 8th grade through high school. He just happened to be able to dunk in the 8th grade. He was also 1-2 years older than everyone else.

I always thought he looked to be about 26, as a freshman.

Yeah, and I never really got his hype.

Love Daddy Dale!! Those days in the late 70's early 80's will be treasured! If you remember them the way I do, you know what I mean! If you don't, sucks to be you!

I do not believe that he convinced Lester Earl to make up shite about Dale Brown in order to get released.
