I still can't understand intentionally walking the 8 hitter to load the bases, he was 0-2 with a sac bunt followed by the 9 hitter. Let Hess do his thing and challenge the batter. Did it cost LSU the game, no, but definitely took some wind out of their sails.

If you play in the Superbowl, do you start your 2nd string quarterback because you know your starter will prevail in the last 3 quarters? I think not. Stupid move Maineri.

PM made 2 absolutely terrible decisions that cost us this game. One is pulling poche in the 6th at 98 piches. He could have easily gotten 4 more outs. Hess has never had to go that long out if the pen. The other unforgiveable is the hit and run with deichmann up a runner at 3rd and 1 out. You have to let deichmann swing away there and hope he doesnt hit into a double play, for quite a few reasons.
And im a Pm apologist

Yesterday Reynolds decision hurt. What hurt's us is CPM usually has 2 good starters and this was a good year we had 3. UF has 4-5 power starters every fricking year!!! They are pitching major.league guys against our average relievers. His pitching recruiting is crap compared to O'Sullivan

Are you referring to pitching?

We had a ton of mistakes over 2 days. Leaving Reynolds in yesterday after the first batter in the fourth (the guy just tweaked his back right before that and he threw 4 straight balls) was a mistake. Today we had 3 errors early that killed us. Had a run taken off the board with the illegal slide. The terrible baserunning both games. Expecting hess to pitch almost 4 innings after being our 9th inning guy. I love our team. And paul is our coach and a damn good one........but you can't do all these things in a national title scenario against that kind of pitching and expect good results. They deserved to win. Hats off to them

We pull Reynolds after 3 and then the next guy gives up a run people will bitch that Reynolds was cruising.
The players and mostly the upperclassman played like crap, especially at the plate.
Kramer was pretty bad for our team leader and lead off hitter. Cole disappointed me since about April. He had such a great start to the season. Antoine can't really complain because he's been our most consistent player. Though his at bat tonight really cost is momentum and the tying run. Deichman had a couple hits, but no homeruns. We hit too many pop ups and not enough line drives.
Watson was great. Beau was decent at times. Slaughter was awful. Smith was also pretty good. Coomes errors were bad. We didn't play like we could/should and it cost us vs a team I think we are better than especially at the plate.
Who knows what happens if Walker is healthy. What could have been.

He could've easily gotten hit hard again a few times or issued a few walks, and the story would be leaving Poche in too long with Hess ready to go. How many pitches did Hess throw in that inning, 5?

We don't have enough stud pitchers plain and simple. UF has like 4-5 monsters.

At the time it was a 1 run game. 1 run is significantly easier to score than 2 runs. Who gave you the better chance to get you out of the game without scoring the runner on 2nd? Clear answer is Hess... Now the case can be made he was left in to long, but it was the right call to bring him in...

Did the hit and run have any bearing on the play? If anything it kept us out of a double play cause that's exactly what Deichman would have hit into if not for the hit and run. If any blame is to be had on that play it is Kramer running from 3rd.

Pretty sure even PM disagrees with you after listening to his comments after game 1

The hit and run caused freaking deichmann to swing at a less than good pitch, so it is absolutely to blame.

Can't help but wonder if we retain the hitting coach. The hitters did not seem to adjust from day to day!

I thought it was a straight steal. I never saw Freeman look up.

Except for when they adjusted to knock Fehmel out of the game early a few games ago.

Not sure how different the call is going to be with a runner on 3rd and less than two outs. You can wait on a good pitch until you've got 2 strikes and go down swinging like Duplantis. Ground ball to the right side is one of your better scenarios with a runner on 3rd, it was just played perfectly.

Hindsight is always 20/20. How many of CPM's other hunches and lineup changes actually paid off?

Not only did those decisions cost us but his lineup construction did too as well as situational baseball and base running. You can't keep putting pll in bad spots and say oh just hit the ball and save us.
