You might try to book a room at L'Auberge casino. They may still have a shuttle to the game. Another possibility would be to get a room in the town of Gonzales which is about 25 miles from Tiger Stadium and more reasonably priced.

Good luck lads.

Mate, it's an experience you will never forget. Expect a game atmosphere similar to a state of origin (rugby league). The tailgate though is insane. Be prepared to eat the best food you've ever eaten, and lots of it! I recommend going to campus the day before the game and take a look around, because there's a good chance you won't remember it on game day! Go to Walmart and buy yourself an esky on wheels and just fill her up with drinks and you should be set to go.

I'm only in my early 20s so I went to Tigerland after the game which was good fun. I went to chimes the night before which is a must visit.

I can promise you won't regret it, I visited 9 different states over there and I can assure you the best bunch of people I met were at tiger stadium. I'll definitely be heading back over again next year.

Enjoy mate

A day before the game would probably be the best time to go to Mike's habitat.

Going a day early and eating at The Chimes the night before would be a good idea.

Louie's for breakfast is always a good choice as well.

Google Maps "Louisiana Old State Capital". That's downtown. You can"t safely walk there from campus and you won't be coming to the U.S. to see how boring our downtown is. The Chimes is a good bar and has everything from Asahi to Guiness, with everyone watching football on TV. Besides the area at the gates there is full of restaurants and such. Personally I'd pay $100 and reserve a room now at a Hilton Hampton Inn or Mariott Fairfield Inn anywhere in town...clean rooms, free breakfast. Uber to the game. It's a car country. You can't jump around in trains like Tokyo. Not lots of hotels by campus. Campus is surrounded by housing. People scalp tickets outside the stadium before a game so that's easy (unless you come for the Bama game). Walk up to people partying/cooking/drinking and say "Hi, we're visiting from Australia. Can we join you? We came because we heard this place is famous for it's tailgating." Maybe half the people you meet will be oddities, but I guarantee you half the people will view it as their personal responsibility to impress you with their food and drinks. Everybody loved Brad Wing because he was a bad arse so you couldn't come from a better place. Yeah, wear Aussie stuff. Expect dumb questions and references to whatever the local person has heard about Australia...like which province in Canada that is.

Look for hotels around I-10 ansardo College Drive and on Constitution Drive. Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Courtyard, Marriott. Make your reservations now. Don't wait.

It is pretty safe, it's just the walk to downtown goes through the ghetto and there isn't really a decent side walk down Nicholson to get you there. But if you walked the other direction to tigerland, you would be fine. I would stay downtown though, just uber or shuttle to campus from hotel.

Yeah I think we're gonna walk south and hang at a few bars there and then uber to downtown

Thanks

Yeah we wanna stay in Downtown but it looks pretty pricey and booked out already.

What about the Siegen Inn? That seems decent and only 15mins from downtown

Hey mate

Yeah I can't wait, I read the thread you posted from your visit and sounds like you guys had an awesome time. I imagine it's like SOO x 10

Yeah I'm a little concerned that I won't be able to get around campus very well once I start drinking and trying to read the map haha

Esky on wheels sounds like a brilliant idea

Did you wear any aussie gear to stand out?

Chimes sounds like a must the night before

Yeah we're going to a heap of places (LA, Utah, Denver, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Atlanta, Cincy, Pittsburgh, Philly and NY) but this is what I'm more excited about.

If you've got any more advice/suggestions please PM me

Thanks

Thanks for the advice, seems Chimes is a must

Unfortunately those accommodation options you suggested are already sold out

So do you recommend relying on scalpers rather than pre-purchasing tickets? Looking at getting some decent seats

Gonna have to work on my Brad Wing impersonation!

Hey thanks so much for the offer, would definitely love to hang out with you guys.

We don't play rugby ourselves, but know plenty about the sport, obviously fans of the Wallabies and we follow the Waratahs in Super Rugby

Would be great to catch up at your tailgate, interested to hear what the rugby scene is like in the states

I met a few tiger fans along the way, met two blokes in Nashville who invited us to their tailgate and it was unreal so we spent most of the day there. I wore an LSU shirt because I'm a supporter. My mates dressed as normal but you will have no problem meeting people with your accent mate. Especially girls that's not an exaggeration especially in the smaller cities. My email address is deanjanda@hotmail.com if you have any questions mate I'm happy to help with whatever I can

I'll leave it to others as to what the very best ticket options are. I get free tickets from a relative so I haven't paid close attention to details. Just...don't stress if you don't have tickets before you come and don't overpay. Wide variety of tickets scalped outside the stadium entrances at cost or pretty damn close and it's legal (or it is in the sense the cops don't care). Best on the sidelines, although how close you are doesn't matter, although the field does look far away if you're in the upper deck on the side the river is on. Don't know that hotel you mentioned. How about the Holiday Inn Express?

Siegen Inn from the website looks at least decent. In a nice part of town so safely not a dive. In a newer part of town so not as iffy as an equivalently priced hotel that's 40 years old. It basically looks like a slightly cheaper knock off of a Holiday Inn, The Chimes that people are recommending is basically a comfortable pub with tv's, food, and beer. Google it and you'll see. Lots of very reasonably priced, good food that will fill you up on that street like Five Guys and Chipotle, although the Louie's that was recommended has more local fare. Wear a hat. Drinking all day in the sun or whatever will wear you out.

[quote]after doing some research it seems that the LSU Tigers home games are the place to be for the best tailgate and atmosphere in the nation[/quote

I'll be at that game.

Get to campus early. Not like crack of dawn early but if you can get there by say, noon? That would be good. And that's pushing it.

Traffic is always backed up on gamedays.

Get there early so you can experience everything.

As silly as it sounds, just walk up to tailgates and ask how things are going. People will talk to you just like they know you. (Just don't wear any Bama stuff )

Watch the band come down the hill. Yes, it's not much but it's our hill! The players come down the hill about 15 min prior to the band.

Go see Mike in his habitat. Run by the bookstore, get you some LSU stuff.

After the game, not sure what to tell you to do. There are lots of places to go that are nearby.

TJ Ribs is a fun place. Lots of tv's and beer. Food is decent. Not a far drive from Tiger Stadium.

Have an awesome time!

Buy your shirts in Baton Rouge.

Tiger Mania, Black & Gold Sports Shop, WalMart, Tiger People, Tiger District, LSU bookstore and LSU gift shop near stadium all have LSU shirts.
