Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is the best place for this topic, if not I'm sorry and mods please move it to the appropriate place.
My mate and I are heading over to the US in late Sept-early Oct from Australia. I'm a huge sports fanatic and after doing some research it seems that the LSU Tigers home games are the place to be for the best tailgate and atmosphere in the nation. We are planning to attend the LSU v Missouri game on October 1.
Just wanted to get some local advice on anything that will help us have a good time. In particular transport to the stadium, how best to mingle in the tailgate as foreigners, best sections to sit in the stadium, where to go afterwards for fun, etc. We're two males in our mid 30s who are keen to eat, drink and have a great time. Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

frick yeah. Australian people rule.
Depending on where you're staying, Uber is almost definitely your best bet for gameday transportation. You'll have a great time just farting around campus before the game. Most tailgates will welcome you and provide food and beverage if you ask and tell them youre visiting from out of the country. Im sure someone will post a link to the thread from a coupl years ago that is essentially a comprehensive guide for out of towners. That will go into further detail than I feel like going into right now.
Enjoy your stay, m8.

Go to the Coates Mens room, ask for the Freddy.

Don't go to Reggies after the game unless you want to hang out with a bunch of 18-20 year olds. Go downtown, The Chimes or the Overpass area. Or Slinky's if you want to sit in a dive bar and crush cigarettes.

Don't listen to the above, mate, the guy is a square.

Are these 2 guys aware of the LSU Australia punting connection?

I know it's just how y'all say friend or buddy, but don't introduce your friend as "my mate." Also, just wear purple and/or gold and you'll be fine. Hope y'all have a blast.

Thanks heaps for your feedback.
We haven't finalised accommodation at this stage, we're doing a road trip from LA to NY to accommodation will be sorted in the coming months. Do you have any suggestions for where to stay so we're not too far from the stadium and close to bars/night life?
Yeah we figured if we just walked around and chatted to people they would be pretty welcoming. With the tailgate is there an expectation that you provide them with a money/gift/drink in exchange for trying some of the amazing food on offer?
Yeah if someone could provide the link to the out of towners guide that would be awesome!
Thanks again

And why not? I don't think anyone is going to care if he introduces his friend as mate. Something happen to the past to you and some mates?

They will all have drinks already, and don't give them money. A random gift from Australia would be cool though

Just had a look, Reggies looks good, one of the reviews said "Typical college bar with people passing out at tables and girls at the bar falling in their heels."
Haha sounds good to me!
We wanna enjoy the local culture and mingle, cheap drinks always helps

So when you say downtown, is that far from the stadium?
Is the campus right next to the stadium? Or will we have to travel back into town to enjoy these bars?

Do be sure to wear the correct shade of gold. As not to wear the other Tigers gold.

If so yeah I've definitely heard about them
