Could the fake punt be used as a primary formation for an offense?

The long snap creates time for the quarterback to find someone open and the 3-man shield gives blockers against the pass rush. You could put an athletic Johnny Manziel type of player back there to improvise. He could either scramble if he sees an opening on the field or run around until one if the two receivers get open.

Would it be worth a shot??

My son threw one pass last year, for varsity, and it was intercepted from a punt formation.

You really need a coach who thinks outside the box and is willing to risk his coaching career on trying it. But if they do, it’s a good chance it could work and could become one of the all time best offenses. Then you bump this thread and take credit for it.

The best thing about this is that if you get a qb who can also punt, he can just punt it away if he doesn’t like the look of the defense.

The defense would then just have to rush 4 players and put the rest in a zone coverage because they would have plenty of time to read the pass that is coming 12 yards from behind the line of scrimmage.

That Jack scene from as good as it gets is one of the best lines in movie history.
