I feel quite certain this will make people really mad, but here goes anyway.

I'm excited about the fact that TS will increase attendance with the expansion, but I can't help but feel that something really is lost architecturally with these expansions in the outward appearance of Tiger Stadium over the years. I miss the Roman Colliseum arches, and the overall look of the place, something we still have at the North End, but is going away, and I don't really feel this new look from the expansion gives when you see it from the outside.

I know the modern CFB world is all about revenue, packing them in and size, but I really do wish we could maintain some kind of architectural interest to the place instead of looking just like every place else.

I guess I just grew up looking at those old arches and thought how special Tiger Stadium was compared to everywhere else I'd seen, our very own Roman Colliseum. It even felt like it was when you approached it, imagining real gladiators walking the corridors soon to make their debut. I just hate to see us lose all that, or look back one day and kind of regret we didn't just put a little more attention to the look when we were constructing those expansions.

I will now take my arse chewing for being the kill joy.

I've felt this way all along. I think the biggest problem was that, back in the mid 90's when this all started, there doesn't seem to have been any long term plan that foresaw enclosing in the lower bowl entirely, or 3/4 or whatever. As such, all three additions now look nothing like each other for the outside, and the new SEZUD is a rather pale attempt to recapture the old Colosseum look of the bowl.

It's water long under the bridge, but imagine if LSU HAD taken into account this whole project back then and had decided to build the decks with an eye towards making them fit together design wise AND having them mimic the old bowl's exterior? It could have been fantastic!

All that said, I'm excited that LSU has taken upkeep of the stadium seriously, even if I'm not a huge fan of the design. I'm also excited to be part of Tiger stadium 2014+ as the capacity swells to over 100,000.

Agreed, it really could have been very cool. The problem is that the most commonly captured side of the stadium is perhaps the least interesting with those two big square monstrosities that stick out like a sore thumb.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong. I'm excited too. Like you, I just wish there had been a little more thought put into the overall look of the place from the outside perspective. In any case, it's going to really be great from the inside perspective for sure. Now, to pack that son of a gun.

All of the windows, both above and below the overhang, look square now. Have they completely abandoned the arches?

The arches go on the upper section that they're working on now.

Or the new logo that they have inside at mid-court. Either one would look great IMO

They are doing arches they will just be at the top like the previous poster said. As far as losing the original aesthetics te south side always looked like an abomination. Glad they are covering it up. They can always redo the outer portions of the upper deck with a facelift later. Would prefer the next round of money be spent on concourses and bathrooms next. There is no place like tiger stadium an I can't wait to see it this fall
