A lot of our issues in the defensive backfield were communication. I attribute a lot of that to poor coaching, and I don't think we'll see it with Aranda.

Steele played too much zone, and too little man, for the personnel we have.

QB advantage- 2016
Definitely, I agree.

RB- 2016
2016, Agree

OL- 2016
2016 by a lot. 2011 was barely above average

WR- 2016
Rueben Randal was as good as anyone on 2016, but he was all we had. Advantage 2016 by a bunch.

DL- 2011
2011 by a bunch. I think 2016 will be equivalent to 2012, but 2011? Brockers and Logan? Not that good.

LB - 2011
. I'll call this even, and I'm being generous to 2011

DB- 2011
i agree. TM7 is the difference. I disagree about Adams. I'd take Reid over Adams, but it's close.

I gave 2016 the advantage in 4 of 7 categories, with 2011 having the advantage in only two. The advantage that 2011 had on the DL, though, was huge. That's what made that team.

He certainly sucked in that game, that's for sure.

No he didn't. There were no holes. That had nothing to do with how Fournette played.

I just Hope 2016 can come close to the 2011 team in punt coverage. 2011 downed so many punts inside the 15 it was unreal and almost no returns yards in regular season.

I remember hearing that Steele felt like he had to play more zone to compensate for the lack of pressure by the front 7. Aranda will have to find ways for our D to get in the backfield or cause turnovers if we want to compare it to the '11 defense.

That's very logical...the pressure was not there...

Chavis had even less pressure the previous year, and we still finished with the #1 pass defense in the conference and the #3 pass defense in the country.

We'll be much better in pass defense from last year after going back to our tried and true.

I agree that we should've played more man. I was giving a reason why we played more zone last year.

Stats aside, the 2011 team, even with a strange QB situation owned every team they played through the SEC CHAMPIONSHIP game with one exception and in the one exception game stood toe to toe with an equally good team in an extremely hostile environment (I was there, I know) and won. The rematch turned out, well, you know.
2011 was probably the best team in LSU history. If 2016 even comes close it will be a good team. I'm just skeptical at this point.

Disagree, lee was the top rated passer in the sec that year doubtful Harris does that. Rb agree of course oline had 2 pros Faulk and Collins and hurst would've easily been a pro if injuries don't force him to quit football I'm not sure we have 3 pros on this line.. Wr it's not even close 2011 had 6 pros on that team beck is a top 5 wr in the nfl at least randle is a upper half type wr Landry is a star also I'm not sure any of these guys are even as good as our 3rd best wr from 2011. As far as the d goes dline isn't close we had pros 2deep on that team right now we might have 1 nfl player lb is close but I'm taking minter over anyone we have currently and the secondary was much better also. I think this team has a chance to compete but with what I've seen so far can't compare em to 2011 though I believe rb and possibly qb could be better

I keep hearing this and there's not even one passing category. Wilson, Murray Mccarron tops, Lee was 9th in a just couple categories.

Probly cause of attempts but he's on Espns stats and every pre-season mag for 2012 my original point was that lee was the most efficient qb numbers wise I'm not sure Harris can do that. He's got a lot of talent and he could be a dangerous player but he's not very efficient I hope with his health being better they'll use his legs more but his lack of short pass accuracy needs to improve dramatically

2011 was way better.

DL makes all the difference.

Tyrann was magic.

I disagree with your assessment of Harris > Lee. Lee was solid. a sure thing
I expect Harris to be better than last year. Lee was more experienced.

I agree on Shepard.

regardless of how they look on paper, the ball can take some funny bounces.
LSU can win the national championship 15-0 or go 8-5, with a loss in the so-what bowl.
There will be lots of close games. Arkansas' lines are still huge.

We went 13-0 before the big letdown that's very hard to do Bama hasn't done it the last few years to just say this years team is better is too bold a statement I hope we get some breaks and contend but 2011 is the better team until this team can out preform them. That team was a great college team had more pros and had some outstanding pros

Faulk, La'el, Lonergan, Blackwell, Hurst. T-Bob.
vs.
Teheuma, Pocic, Clapp, Weathersby, Boutte. Malone.
Advantage: 2016
Blackwell, Hurst and Lonergan were not ever widely considered NFL talents. LSU has four legitimate draft picks and several guys who may be on the cusp.

Adams, Logan, Brockers, Montgomery. Mingo, Downs, Freak, Edwards.
vs.
Key, Lacouture, Godchaux, Bower. Gilmore, Herron, Lawrence, Alexander
Advantage: 2011
The new bigs could change this if they monumentally contribute, but until they hit campus, the nod stays with that phenomenal 2011 squad.

Barrow, Minter, Hatcher
vs.
Beckwith, White, Thompson, Divinity
Advantage: 2011
2011 gets the nod mostly because Barrow and Minter were solid. They were usually accompanied by Mathieu, who really played OLB. Technically not an LB'er, his talent transcended position and gives the nod to 2011. Disagree? Honey Badger don't care.

Reid, Mo, Taylor, Simon, Mathieu, Brooks
vs.
Adams, White, Jefferson, Toliver, Smith, Thomas
Advantage: 2016

Just making sure you were paying attention. Anyone who actually picks 2016 in the previous category is categorically stupid.

Jefferson/Lee
vs.
Harris/Etling
Advantage: 2016
It is. It just is. Let it be.

Randle, Beckham, Wright, Boone, Landry
vs.
Dupre, Dural, Johnson, Ferguson, Sullivan, Davis
Advantage: 2011
While I'd take Dupre over Randle as my #1 and newcomers might prove to be great, but 2011's guys really contributed beyond catches and yards. I would not be surprised to flip this pick come October.

Peterson, Clement, Joseph
vs.
Jeter, Smith, Moreau
Advantage: 2011
Clement was really a dominant edge blocker. A healthy, eligible Gordon swings the pendulum though.

Ware, Ford, Blue
vs.
Fournette, Guice, Williams
Advantage: 2011

What? You weren't paying attention again? If Founette were to run on exclusively on his hands, this might be up for debate.

Overall advantage: 2016
Simply put, the competition is weaker for the 2016 squad. The team and the staff know that this is the year of the Tiger, so the focus will not waver. Expect Miles to hoist Joe Alleva's severed head in celebration come January.
