QB advantage- 2016
I think Harris is better than Lee or Jefferson. I don't agree with the hate he gets. I think he's easily our best QB, aside from Mett, since Flynn left.

RB- 2016
Easy one to pick. Even beyond LF, I'd I'd take Guice over Ware, Blue, or Hilliard.

OL- 2016
11 didn't have a single OL drafted (although Collins would've been a first rounder. He was in his first season starting anyway though.) Assuming we get average tackle play, which I think is more than attainable, this line should be better.

WR- 2016
Keep in mind that OBJ was a freshman in 2011, wasn't what he is today. Dupre and Dural are long, athletic, fast, veterans on the outside. I'd take Tyron Johnson in the slot over Russell Shepard.

DL- 2011
No contest really. 2016 DL should be good, but 2011 was ridiculous.

LB - 2011
2016 LB is a huge question mark, other than Beckwith. 2011 LB corps wasn't spectacular but was pretty good.

DB- 2011
I think it's closer than most would think. Adams is our best safety since Laron imo. White and Toliver are spectacular CB's. But the playmaking of TM7 and the veteran leadership and underrated play of Brandon Taylor push 11 over the top.

Special Teams - 2011 in a landslide

Overall, if LSU can fix ST issues, I think 2016 should be a better team than 2011. That's a tall task and certainly going out on a limb but it's just my opinion. I like the 16 offense a lot more than 11. I think the defenses are close, with the DL being the only big difference in favor of 11, as well as better depth and the playmaking of TM7.

Agree? Disagree? Why?

Watch Brandon Harris against Arkansas or Alabama, then maybe you'll understand (said the way Tonic says it).

You forgot one thing, mentality.

That 2011 team was full of savages.

This team may also end up being the same way but it remains to be seen.

Hopefully very strong leaders can step up this season to bring the natty back to BR!

Pretty easy to break down.

Better offense in 2016, better defense in 2011, and better special teams in 2011.

Let's not forget Peveto is still on staff.

Name any all-time great quarterback, I can show you games where they looked terrible.

Watch LF against Alabama. Does that mean he sucks?

Overall not bad
QB may be a push, but I think Harris has potential to be better than JJ and JL so i am not gonna fault you.

RB- obviously agree

OL- i think it is worth noting that out 2011 oline was not that good. I think 2016 will be a lot better, but there are still some ????. Sitll i think 2016.

WR- this is my sticking point. Freshmen OBJ was damn good, and RR was awesome. I take 2011 but it is close, and 2016 coudl prove me wrong.

DL- 2011 I agree.

LBs- i take 2016. Key and Beckwith are going to be 2 of our best players on defense. 2011's best linebacker was...Baker? Minter the half the time he split with Hatcher?

DBs- 2011 really no argument here. Maybe something we will have to address post season, but Mo, Reid, Mathieu, Taylor, Brooks and Simon were incredible.

Special Teams- 2011 but that is because Brad Wing was incredible. Kicking could be similar, and so could returning. I think TM7 was overrated as a PR 12/14 games.

Special teams is going to cost us a game next year.

I'm still shocked it didn't this past year.

Harris was also injured in the Bama game so that impacted his play going forward.

I also don't think you're putting enough weight on how important our special teams unit was that season. Punting alone swung momentum in a few games. Also our return game was incredible.

It will be a tall task for that special teams unit from last year to even come near the productivity of that 2011 unit.

You may also be underestimating the gap between defenses. I believe Aranda's system will work well for us but it may take some time adjusting to. Considering that, the defensive gap may be a little more than some would expect.

What games were you watching last year?

Toliver looked like garbage most of the year

While I agree, I think it's a good sign that we had guys like Pocic, White, Beckwith, Neal etc. come back to school. Those are guys slotted in places in the draft, who normally would go pro from LSU. They didn't come back just to improve their stock a bit, I think they're hungry.

I was very happy with Toliver to be honest. He played great for a true freshman. A lot of our issues in the defensive backfield were communication. I attribute a lot of that to poor coaching, and I don't think we'll see it with Aranda.

I don't think that's really fair. Toliver is young and got picked on. He's going to be a good one. But even if Adams is as good as we think, I don't see him as better than Reid right now. And of course the CBs aren't as good. DBs are a huge advantage for 2011 imo. LBs maybe not if the DL guys can make the transition from 4-3 to 3-4.

I could see that being the case.

Here's to hoping that we can match the attitude and effort of that 2011 team.

He certainly sucked in that game, that's for sure.

I'd take 2016's WR group all day on what we thought we had going into 2011 and the production of 2011. Beckham as a true freshman was our #2. Our #2 this year is senior Dural. Russell Shepard was our slot/#3 and I'd take any of Ferguson, Dupre, Johnson, or Dillon in the slot over Shepard (all of them are doing that this spring). Even true freshman Sullivan at 6'6 230 is playing in the slot right now. I'd take Dupre over Randle as my #1 as well. Didn't even mention Chark who will be at worst #4.

LB in 2011 was average at best and the insane DL and secondary hid that unit very good. I feel like this year, even with a change in scheme and inexperienced personnel, will be much better than 2011. The athleticism at the LB position this year is huge and I doubt and guy in the 2 deep will be under 230lbs.

DL- 2011 No contest really. 2016 DL should be good, but 2011 was ridiculous.

Think about this though, nobody knew we'd get that type of season out of those guys.

Montgomery had a leg injury mid way through his redshirt freshman season the year prior (but he looked like he was going to be really good)

Mingo was only decent as a redshirt freshman as well in 2010

Michael Brockers was a backup redshirt freshman that didn't do much statistically

Bennie Logan only played in the cupcakes

Ken Adams was a meh starter for both years

No, those guys exploded in 2011.

The 2011 LSU team was historic... I don't think 2016 team will match that... They have a strong group of talent and barring injury should only lose once IMO...Not sure who its against... This team SHOULD be explosive on offense like they were in the bowl game... I have been saying this for months keep Cam on the sideline....

Well to be fair, there are a lot of decidedly below average QBs that would be LSUs best since Flynn, other than ZM.
