I know we follow LSU the closest. And from what I saw I can say that Lange is a weekend starter. Period. I can say Zardon is the 3rd baseman. He made 2 fantastic plays over there and he might have the strongest arm when he's on the field. Stallings is the closer. Hale needs to stay at first with KRob at 2B.

All of that is true but it still doesn't answer anything over the long haul. We knew going into the series Lange would probably be a weekend starter and that was confirmed. But from the outside looking in the question wasn't necessarily who our starters would be, it is more about how consistently good the staff will be considering how reliant we will be on freshmen starters (regardless of who the names actually turn out to be). That isn't going to be answered after one weekend and one start by a couple of pitchers.

And on the other side of he argument I agree it was disappointing not to see more extra base hits, but that doesn't mean the power isn't there or that it won't be a factor. It just means it didn't happen in those three games.

It certainly answers more questions than a dataless, preseason guess

This is correct if you assume no research was done on the part of the voters and the preseason poll really was nothing but a guess. But if there are certain things they want to see from certain teams based on last year's performance, what they have returning, etc then it answers very little.

Correct. To make any assumptions on how a team will be after only the first three games shows how little some people know baseball much less a coach PM team

I don't have much to disagree with you on either. Although I do think we found a 3rd baseman for the long haul.

My point was that this weekend shouldn't be meaningless to these writers just because they have too much pride to think any of their pre conceived notions were wrong. I'm not saying the first weekend tells us everything. Far from it. But I don't agree that the top 11 teams should have stayed the same simply because they won their weekend series. I think the games should have more weight than that.

I'm not making assumptions on just 3 games. Some of us have been watching this team closely for over 6 months now.

I like Paps, but I want to see him take more at bats before I see him taking over for Scivique. It'll be a question of whose combination of offense and defense outweighs the other, but there's still a lot of time.

Unfortunately, small sample sizes make this impossible to tell early, I just don't see him losing his spot. Then again, I don't follow that closely in the off season like a lot of you do.

Well I think the general consensus (and I believe even from a PM quote) is that Paps will be brought on slowly and work (and earn) his way in. I think most people believe that he will be the starter by season's end if not by SEC play. I'm no scout and I'm no expert so I'm defaulting to some of the other guy's opinions. You do bring a good point that we should see how well the combination of his offense and defense balances with that of Sciv (and Chinea) before we automatically just take it for granted that he's going to start and dominate. Both Sciv and Chinea are serviceable at worst at catcher so we do have the luxury of letting him work himself in instead of the pressure of being fulltime starter.

I understand. Didn't mean it to sound negative. But so many things are gong to change over the next month or so. I still go by skips ole saying we will know everything we need to know by tax day (april 15) everyone will have had enough bats the freshman will either have performed by then or sank under the pressure and the lineup should be jn order by then. But for the record the previous six months really doesn't mean a thing. However I am very excited to see how this team evolves and how these freshman play out

That's fair. And I tried to make it clear that I don't think every question is answered.

I didnt figure alot of teams would move.

Arky and Miss State will be solid this year. Keeping an eye on aTm as well but wont know on them til after the Houston Classic.

Vandy missed Buehler and I could tell Santa Clara had been counting down for that series.

I think CSF and FSU will struggle some this year and a couple of potential sleepers lost series on the road to solid teams. (Nebtaaska to UNLV and Tenn to FIU)

This could very well be the best weekend in college baseball if some of these matchups materialize.

Miami/Florida
TCU/Ariz State
CSF/Stanford
FSU/Georgia
UCLA/UNC
Alabama/Houston
Rice/Arizona
Arkansas/Maryland(part of Mobile tourney)

Agree, but to others it doesn't mean much. Even though it has been talked about a lot here locally I don't think anyone really believed being so bad at 3rd that it significantly hinders the season was a realistic scenario.

Now the fact that it is Zardon will have more of an impact on the way the team is viewed if he turns out to be a consistent producer in the bottom of the lineup (which I think he will).
