Let's get this straight, because I hear and read this frequently, no coach, no Miles, no Bowden, no Paterno, no anyone, deserves anything but a paycheck. These guys get huge paychecks to win, to run a clean program and to represent the university well. If they fail to accomplish all of these things, they deserve to be paid in accordance with their contract, a box to clean out their desk, and that's it.

Highly compensated people in college football know what the risks are when they take the job, they take better jobs and leave fans hanging all the time, without a thought. No doubt we will hire the next coach from a school that wants to keep him.

But seriously, Coach Miles probably does deserve the chance to exit of his own accord instead of letting things get ugly at the end. An out and out firing would probably reflect poorly on the university as well.

I agree. He deserves a paycheck for a job well done, and deserves a boot if he doesn't earn it.

There are millions of nice people in Louisiana. Being nice is not a job qualification.

Coach Miles deserves a thanks for what he's done and then kindly asked to take his $15MM on top of the $25MM he has already made and go peacefully into a warm breeze of some resort in the Caribbean for a few weeks.

Then he can get into the ESPN cycle as he is good TV.

Goodnight sweet prince.

I'm a big admirer of Les Miles and the success he had at LSU. I am very glad that he came to LSU and gave us the years that he gave us.

That said, is stubbornness and love for the dual threat QB cost him his job at LSU. He could have been a hall of fame coach had he stuck to competent, pro style QB's. For whatever reason, he grew infatuated with QB's that could run the ball (some couldn't even do that well), but couldn't manage a pro-style offense. I hate to sound like a kid on here patting himself on the back, but I said back in 2011, with the return of JJ, that Les was going to go down due to his love for the running qb....unfortunately it proved correct.

You almost have to make a change now, damage is done by Alleva now.
Now the clock ticks on you.
You better make the right hire or you risk going the way Tenn, Texas and Fla have.
Even Bama is not immune to it after Stallings left and they had to get to Saban before they fixed it.
LSU job is a different animal and you are one decision away from a Hallman hire!

On this 23rd day of November in the year of Our Lord 2015 A.D., I actually upvoted Rex.

I disagree with this almost completely. Dual threat quarterbacks are the bees' knees in college football. Miles's problem is that he doesn't know how to utilize the talents of the QBs he recruits.

deserves.....to not be run out the town that he's raised his kids in and called home for the least 12 years.

Whether or not he deserves to be the HC at LSU I am wavering. He does not deserve to be treated poorly as a person though.

shite, now I am agreeing with Rex. Every national title outside of the Bama titles has been won with a QB that could run. You don't have the passing attacks you do in the NFL, so picking up a 3rd and 12 with the QB running or scrambling is HUGE.

Agreed.

Most realistic fans regarding this firing have held high paying corporate/management jobs and understand how the real, bottom-line world works.

The "Les deserves" crowd likely holds down the third shift at the Dairy Queen.

Miles is a nice man and a good family man. He represents good principles etc.
Sadly, he is not a great coach. Besides being too stubborn he picks poor offensive coaches. Croton and Cameron are not teachers which is what young qbs' need. Miles has yet to recruit and develop a high school qb. Jeff and Jeff Jr. are too of the worst qb's in LSU history.
Additionally, Miles has never been accused of having a good game plan for any game and is out of his league when the dive play doesn't work.
He does deserve an exit with dignity though.

I love rationalizations like this, so generalized and intended to make one feel superior based on their opinion.

LMAO....Alabama had one....they got exposed in the first round of the playoffs....but, they won NC's in 2009, 2011, and 2012 without one.

In 2006 and 2008, there was Tebow....but I would HARDLY compare Tebow to an official dual threat like QB.....Tebow was actually smart, he just didn't have the arm talent.

LSU won NC's in 2003 and 2007 without one, of course, they lost one in 2011 with one.

In 2010....there was a dual threat qb that won a NC....but how many Cam Newton's come along?

2013....Winston really isn't dual threat qb at all....and let's face it, they got to play an Auburn team that should have had 4 losses.

In 2014....Ohio State shocked the world with inexperienced QB...and quite frankly with an offense that Saban hasn't been able to overcome in his career.......while countering ohio state with their own dual threat qb....lol.....then they got to face another dual threat attack against Oregon...lol.....

this year, Saban will likely win his 4th NC with Coker......another one...

Jefferson was a pro-style QB
Winston was a dual threat QB
Cam was a dual threat QB
Jones was a pro-style QB
