He said that "we are starting to look into it. Developing an A.I. model that can best fits the type of player we need at each position". i.e. input all the data that best describes a DE & then recruit players that best fits that model. Taking " Billy Bob" & measuring him against the DE model. Not sure how you input a measurement of " a chest".

AI has many potential applications assuming it does not eliminate us. It could be used to develop a game plan and even play calling. It will be used to scout opponents if it has not been done already. The list is limited only by the users imagination.

being the developer in charge of designing the algorithm to target ideal recruits based on position is a dream job for anyone who works in analytics

curious as to how much more data the staff is privy to on recruits outside of what is publicly available

You’re on the right track. The stock market has been on the same algorithm since its inception. It’s been run on artificial intelligence for a long time. Let’s just say that AI isn’t your friend and leave it at that.

While I agree it has its place, you are still dealing with motivations and actions of 85 different 18-22 yr old kids. While there is enough group think for it be effective on one level, unless we are getting into the realm of chip implantation to measure emotional sub-concious level shite, it will always be limited.

The majority of “computer nerds” don’t care for sports. My current data guy went to Bama and was there for 2 NC seasons, but you could tell him Bryant Denny was a hardware store and he couldn’t argue. But, yes, there is a segment of data analyzers who would absolutely love that gig.

Building a dataset seems like the hardest part, IMO. Creating predictive models from the data isn’t trivial by any means but it’s made much more difficult by the quality of data available for high school recruits.

That’s probably where AI can help the most - taking highly variable & incomplete data sources and normalizing it in a way that allows coaches to focus their evaluations on a smaller group of players.

I don’t think you get away from subjective evals, but if you can narrow the scope of those evaluations you can make your recruiting efforts much more efficient.

Predictive is the key and main challenge. Madden programs have laid some groundwork using a rear view mirror but could be adopted. It’s a field ripe for the adoption. So many thousands of high schoolers.

All good until we decide to just play the AI at DE.

Nonconvex optimization machine learning would be well-suited for forecasting such behaviors. It can work with very limited input data.

Followed up with the priceless anecdotal evidence.

You are definitely not into data modeling, statistical analysis or computer nerdery lol.
