Don't know how many of y'all have been on The Rant for at least five years. However, I can remember the 2012 season (which had they won the Alabama game, would probably have won the BCS championship that year), when we found out we were playing Clemson in the Chik-Fil-A bowl, how we looked down on them and basically, mocked the program on many threads on this board.

I remember guys on The Rant talking about how the game wouldn't be close (they had seen Clemson get blown out by WVU the previous Bowl season), how Dabo was hardly a good coach, and Clemson's stadium was not the "real Death Valley".

So, my question is..................................how in the world have the two programs, from the time of LSU losing that bowl game to now, basically switched positions? At that time we were a PERENNIAL top 5 prorgram and Clemson was just an up and comer, being discounted by US as well as the other elite programs in the nation. Now, WE have become what they were and right now they look like, if not currently the best program, the second best program IN THE NATION.

How did this happen? Is it Karma? Is Dabo a great coach after all? How did we become "Clemson".

Is Marcus Spears right? Are we now just an "average" program?

Most people on this board are complete fricking idiots or trolls from other fan bases.

We play in the toughest division of the best conference in football. Clemson does not.

Something happened after that 2011 season where Miles just began to get soft. Time and time again we began to blow 4th quarter leads.

Isn't it also used after a highlighted portion of text to show that the rest was left out?

It's coaching. When you get that person who is a perfect fit for a program, who also has the wherewithal to make all the right decisions, change happens. There are very few of those people, and not all of them are lucky enough to get matched with a program that fits them.

Truly believe if they would have kept running Jeremy Hill in the second half LSU wins that game. He was nearly unstoppable when he carried the ball

He's great at buying players. We get in trouble even when we don't buy players (e.g. Lester Earl).

It is what it is.

In the last 5 years I would argue Clemsons regular season has been right up there with ours. The SEC west has not been very difficult these last few years

Clemson plays an easier schedule and not the SEC West, for starters.

Interesting to look back on that game as fitting. Two programs going in opposite directions until we get to where both are today. Funny how things like that work

We dominated the game and didn't put them away.

The ONLY time Clemson led was after the final clock had expired.

For starters, here are the SOS rankings since the 2012 game vs Clemson

Clemson-3----4---29-----21 average of 11.75

LSU-4----5----7----11 average of 7.25

Yall need to just admit Dabo and Clemson have been really impressive

Exactly. That's why I brought it up. It literally feels like the two programs have switched positions. It's weird................

And yes, for those that mentioned it, if we had kept running Jeremy Hill in that game, we'd have won it. But maybe that's the beginning of the end...................a bonheaded decision that's been compounded by many similar decisions since then. Either way, we're looking up at Clemson now and no way would anyone compare us to them right now....................at least not favorably. Also.....................I'm not so sure that the SEC West is the "toughest division in football" at this point. Clemson plays FSU and Louisville during their season. So, that's plenty tough.

You want the obvious answer? LSU waited too long to fire Less Miles.

4th and 1 againt bama 2012. instead of using hill's speed and athleticism to the outside, miles runs "warecat". he bobbles the snap, the entire bama d stuffs the middle and miles snatches defeat from the hands of victory.

It's an interesting comparison bc Dabo (like Orgeron) was a very unpopular hire. No real coordinator experience. Dabo was actually less successful in the interim than O. And Dabo didn't get off to a great start at Clemson at all. They are both rah-rah type coaches who lean on their coordinators heavily. Hopefully O is able to identify talent and develop it the way Clemson has (bc theyve had 1 top 10 class the last 4 yrs).
