It is called lack of leadership. No vision. That was another classic Les Miles loss. Another reminder of why he needed to go. Hiring O was a monumental mistake that will send LSU football back into hibernation for who knows how long...

Clemson plays an easier schedule and not the SEC West, for starters.
You know what, I am going to come back at this stupid SEC redneck thought process again

With Dabo, here is how Clemson has done against the vaunted SEC west

Bama, clear and away SEC West #1----- Clemson is 1-1

LSU, SEC west #2 in that time frame------ Clemson is 1-0

Auburn, SEC west #3-----Clemson is 3-1

To even hint the reason Clemson is more successful is due to weaker schedule is asinine

It's an interesting comparison bc Dabo (like Orgeron) was a very unpopular hire. No real coordinator experience. Dabo was actually less successful in the interim than O. And Dabo didn't get off to a great start at Clemson at all. They are both rah-rah type coaches who lean on their coordinators heavily. Hopefully O is able to identify talent and develop it the way Clemson has (bc theyve had 1 top 10 class the last 4 yrs).
The difference is Dabo wasnt 10-25 as a head coach before

That game was our Georgia 2003 game but for Clemson elite status.

Les Miles lost the game for us

The Clemson Tigers are 34-2 in their last 36 games. One loss came to Alabama in the 2015 National Championship game. The other loss came last year to the University of Pittsburgh.

By a similar comparison, the LSU Tigers are 25-12 the last 3 seasons (27-13 L40 games).

One has trended up quickly and has managed to stay there. The other has trended down and unfortunately, has managed to stay there.

Clemson invested a ton of money in football

LSU used football to fund academics

Toughest division of the best conference in football? You ARE kidding right? WHO is TOUGH in the division after Alabama? Texas A&M? Mississippi? Arkansas? Auburn? LSU? MSU remains to be seen. The SEC USED to be the best, but I truly doubt that can be said anymore. The East looks pretty weak.

They stopped running J Hill

I was at that game & it sucked to watch us lose it.

Clemson around that time decided to invest more in the football program. Dabo turned out to be good enough of a coach to see Clemson get a great return on that investment.

I remember Miles calling for 3 straight passes instead of running the clock out. There was also a 4th and 25 converted by Clemson on that last drive.

Deshaun Watson happened. Swap Watson for Zach Mettneberger and the two programs probably swap records. Metternberger was a very solid college QB, Watson has that special ability that is rare.

Which is exactly the point in time when it is really helpful to have the lead.

Just using that as a example of how much we dominated the game and how we did not put them away

Is Marcus Spears right? Are we now just an "average" program?

We've been an average program for a while....we just haven't wanted to admit it.

I've seen the writing on the wall and have come to terms with this fact....finally.

My wife is a Clemson grad and therefore I follow Clemson pretty closely along with LSU since I'm an LSU alum. Dabo, has done a great job of recruiting "character" talent. People who want to do something with themselves even if football doesn't pan out. He had the luxury of a fan base that was patient as they were coming off of the Tommy Bowden era and anything was an improvement. The similarities you mention between Dabo and O are remarkable. Unfortunately, for O, I'm not sure he has the same patient fan base since our Tigers have been at the top most recently. My fear is if he moves to the quick fix of Jr. College players to shore up the line, it may not work out due to character issues and then where are we as a program. The wise move would be to mimic the character recruit model of Clemson, but that takes time. I'm not sure he has that much time. Just my $.02

4th and 1 againt bama 2012. instead of using hill's spped and athleticism to the outside, miles runs "warecat". he bobbles the snap, the entire bama d stuffs the middle and miles snatches defeat from the hands of victory.

To this day I still say the downfall of that season was losing Tyrann Mathieu. I have no doubt in my mind that he would've been there to cover the Yeldon screen pass that essentially ended that game/season.
