Does anyone have an update on whether or not Johnny Jones found that money he had stolen from him while in a Gulfport Hotel on a trip to recruit CJ?
I've always wondered about that. That's a lot of money for a cleaning lady to abscond with, y'know?

quote:I guess you could say he was classy. I loved him as a player too. One of the best I ever witnessed in person. But he lost the 'classy' label in my mind when he refused to stand for the 'Star Spangled Banner' when he played in the NBA.
To me, that was straight class

I hate that politics entered into sports with CJ. I wonder what really happened to him being bounced from the league in 98. He clearly had a lot of basketball left in him.
Granted he wasn't a top flight guard in the league in '98, but he was still averaging 15 a game. I guess he was too big of a risk politically to bring in to a team.
Just watching some of those videos is bittersweet. I had forgotten how amazing the PMAC used to be.

The dude is still playing basketball, has never had a hint of impropriety, no arrests, no string of illegitimate kids, no drugs, etc. Yet people want to bitch because he wouldn't stand for a the national anthem. It was a dumb PR move on his part, but more power to him for standing up for his beliefs, as misguided as they may be.

And yes, he was not the greatest player of all time. When you play for LSU, and players like Bob Pettit, Pete Maravich and Shaquille O'Neal played here, it's hard to crack the Top 5 LSU players of all time, but CJ is definitely in the Top 5.
I am Still in my 30's so i never saw Maravich play but would agree he is the greatest all time
But CJ is the best player i have personally watched in college. He was better than the rest you mentioned. He was unstoppable in college.

Bubba,
I totally agree and frankly, I'm pleasantly surprised at the reaction of the posters in the thread. Everyone's kept it pretty positive.

CJ was a great Tiger, much love for the man
on the other stuff, freedom is a great thing as long as your views are the same as everyone else
disagree with the majority and you'll be run outta town for that "freedom"
