God bless youtube at 2am.

I know, I know. He's not as American as Toby Keith, but as a basketball talent, he still looks pretty good at 40+.

Still one of my favorite athletes of all time! I met him once when I worked as a beer keg hauler at the Orlando Arena and he was as nice as could be. Walked down the hall from their locker room to the bus area and talked and didn't seem put out by it.

Loved the guy at LSU. Loved the guy in the NBA. Love the guy now. My favorite LSU athlete of all time.

Definitely one of the greatest basketball players to ever play at LSU. And I still don't remember anything as exciting in any sport as when he would get red hot and just start draining three after three. That was simply magical.

Guy looks like he can still play. Just watching how smooth he is handling and shooting the ball. Incredible that he can still be going; even if it's in Japan.

This made me watch the highlight video against Tennessee. Holy crap!! I remember watching it at the time, but seeing it now it still doesn't seem real. I also vividly remember us playing the Gators on the road in one of his first games as a freshman, and he put up 53 in their building, still the record there if I'm not mistaken.

Dumb question, but that's not him at the end of the clip being interviewed....right?

did you see him play? He made some of the best passes I have ever seen, made lots of steals and could score at will. Seemed like the complete player to me.

You must be under 55 years of age. By far the best college basketball player I ever saw was Pete Maravich. At 6' 5" tall, he was an amazing ball handler at point guard, and the best scorer in college basketball history. In 1968, when most ball handlers were around 6 feet tall, Pete would dribble and pass circles around defenders. He has scoring records in college that will never be approached. He just didn't have anyone else close to his talent on the team at that time. I liked Chris Jackson at LSU as well, but he had two other All Americans on the team with him. Pete did it all on his own.

If you'd like to see some of his accomplishments, click here:

Maravich at LSU

He did all of this in only 3 years, since freshman were not eligible to play varsity, and he did it without a three point line, which didn't exist at the time.

I always liked how he rarely dunked the ball even though he could easily do it. To me, that was straight class.

Congrats to him...I seem to remember him saying back when he left LSU that he wanted to play into his 40's. sure would have been nicer to see him do it in the NBA, though.

And...his ticks look tremendously better. I realize it could have simply been a downswing time for them, but in my mind's eye his facial movements and head ticks were as much a part of watching him play as anything.

Hope he plays for another 10 years...and that one day LSU and LSU fans will appreciate what the guy did while here and honor the guy.

I agree with this. Pistol was the best.

I don't think anyone is arguing that CJ was the best of all time...in fact the poster you responded to stated plainly that he was the best college ball player HE ever saw.

As I'm 41, I agree with him. In my life time, CJ was the purest offensive player I've ever seen. He made the game look effortless.

Having watched tons of Pete videos, I'd say Pete was the purest offensive player that ever touched a basketball.

Also 41. I was a sophomore when CJ started playing in 1988. I remember packing the PMAC for the Purple-Gold Game so we could all get a glimpse of this guy and he didn't disappoint. I think he scored 26, but Ricky Blanton scored 51 or so in that scrimmage.

And yes, he was not the greatest player of all time. When you play for LSU, and players like Bob Pettit, Pete Maravich and Shaquille O'Neal played here, it's hard to crack the Top 5 LSU players of all time, but CJ is definitely in the Top 5.

No disrespect was meant to the poster nor to Chris Jackson. In his era, Chris was one the best around. I really enjoyed watching him play at LSU. I wanted to give a broader perspective of great players at LSU by introducing Maravich, who the younger folks were not privileged to see play in his lifetime. He was something to see!

Yeah, this is the first I've ever heard of this Maravich character. Thanks for introducing him to me!
