I read where Davenport said he lost about 40 pounds after he transferred to Tulane

Well he was absolutely enormous at LSU, I hope he lost 40 lbs for his health.

Davenport was a 5 star. Rivals had him #25 in the nation.

He has the talent, but sometimes it's the mentality that holds a guy back.

Well he is listed at 334 (looks bigger) now so he was 375-380 at LSU?

Davenport, admitted he was close to 370 pounds when he transferred to Tulane from LSU in January for one year of football as a graduate student. Two years of playing offensive tackle with the Tigers had left him too large to last more than a few plays after switching back to his preferred defensive tackle position.

That's just sad. To blame it on the move to OT is laughable though.

damn, he got up to 370?

interesting that he didn't pan out at DT. Chavis tended to have taller/ bigger DTs at UT (John Henderson, Haynesworth, Dan Williams) than the Lav/ Williams/ Dorsey types that were stars at LSU. thought Davenport fit exactly what he was used to and would flourish in Chief's system.

He seemed just happy to be on the LSU football team and to enjoy the perks that went with that, so he didn't put in the effort needed to succeed.

granted it's against ULL, but he looks pretty good out there. Did we not consider moving him to D? He could have helped this year, I think.

He showed good power against ULL, but not great, considering he is listed at 334. Not much explosion and he's not real violent.

To his credit, CD made his way onto ULL's side of the LOS on just about every snap that I saw (I missed the 1st quarter). However, I don't think that translates over to SEC play. Good interior linemen in the SEC will neutralize that power. He did look pretty nimble for his size.

I'm surprised that he didn't break into the rotation at all on the OL last year.

His aspirations took him to LSU, but the story became a nightmare. A more experienced player always moved in front of him, including his final season when the coaches bypassed him for sixth-year senior Josh Dworaczyk after starting left tackle Chris Faulk went down with a knee injury in the opener.

Based on what I saw against ULL, Davenport would have been a better option, at least from a physical standpoint. It is just baffling to me that JD logged as many snaps at LSU as he did. Sort of made me sad when I read this:

quote:

“Chris would always be on my team,” Donald Davenport said. “We always won. He could outrun the other two kids. I would get him the ball, and he would take off running. Even as a little boy, he would say, ‘Dad, I want to play in the SEC.’ That was always his dream.”

It's clear that Dworaczyk was a Miles/Studrawa favorite. Davenport should have been given a chance last year.

god you people call yourselves fans?

Was a 5* DT out of hs. Couldnt crack the depth chart and ended up a 2nd string tackle, where he actually logged snaps. He graduated from LSU in 2012 and transferred to Tulane.

He was our best olinemen, wtf are you talking about? Chalk up a usc loss if not for josh d.

Dport played in 10 games in 2011 and 11 in 2012. If he was better he would have started. Why didnt he start at RT over Alexander? A Freshman....

Oh and BTW he lived his dream, he played in the sec and got a FREE degree.

Dworaczyk was never the best lineman. Not last year. Not in 2010, and not in 2009. He got beat and pushed around more than any player I have ever seen in a LSU uniform. Go back and watch the end of the second quarter against Idaho for an example of what I'm talking about.

quote:

L 2-12 I49 Z. Mettenberger sacked for loss of 8 yards to the LS43 (Benson Mayowa),
fumble by Z. Mettenberger recovered by LS Alfred Blue at LS42.
L 3-21 L42 Z. Mettenberger sacked for loss of 3 yards to the LS39 (Benson Mayowa).

Guess who gave up those consecutive sacks right before half (with the score 21-14)? Then the next week I remember there was a long thread that documented Dworaczyk's ineptitude. Here it is. Read through, it gets very specific.

If you want some more, go pull up some games from when he played guard. He spent more time in the offensive backfield than any guard I've ever seen.

I'm sick of arguing with Dworaczyk defenders. I don't want to put the guy down, but he just was not SEC caliber. And I don't give a FRICK if the writers gave him All-SEC Honorable Mention. Writers are notorious for being clueless on physical aspects of the game of football. As an example of that, they left La'el Collins off of the All-SEC Team this year.

Here we go again. Go back and watch that game. The game plan was about limiting Clowney's impact. Short, quick passes, and tons of help for Dworaczyk, mainly from the TEs. Nic Jacobs was especially good that game. I'll give JD credit for playing over his head, in a matchup where he was clearly outclassed, but lots of guys could have turned in that kind of performance with that much help.

Chris Davenport never started a game in his LSU career. Dworaczyk started 36 FRICKING TIMES.

Also, there were 2 pass plays that game that went for over 20 yards. Guess who Dworaczyk didn't touch on either?

Here was the longest pass play of the night (first play). The other was a swing pass to Jeremy Hill. Clowney again was not touched, and ended up making the tackle after a 21-yard gain. Then, you look at the 19-yard pass to Landry, Clowney dropped into coverage, and again JD didn't touch him.

Then, look at the longest runs of the night, they were all run to the opposite side of Dworaczyk. Except for Hilliard's 2nd longest run of the night. Nice cut to elude someone's grasp in the backfield. KH's longest run against USC was a sweep to the right side. Chase Clement blocked Clowney. Hill's 50-yard TD was also to the right side, and again JD didn't touch Clowney.

Had a solid year as a DT. He could have been in the rotation no doubt.
