I liked the hire at first, but watching this team has honestly put some doubt in my head. I'll agree that most of the players on this team are not tourney caliber, but to lose leads like they have has to fall partly on the coach.

Very Pro, but was a huge Anthony Grant backer on the Rant during the hiring process, think he a much better recruiter, and slightly higher upside.
I fully back Coach Johnson, already has an outright SEC crown in yr number one, with an Iron 5 and two man bench. Coached that team to much greater total than the sum of it's parts, and was easily one of LSU Mens Hoops Top 5 to 7 seasons alltime. His Sweet 16 run at Stanford, and Nevada works are very impressive. LSU Hoops under TJ will be very good, and his program will help build up the lousy Bandwagon LSU Hoops Fanbase yet.

Pro. This year is what it is. Patience, people. We are not Duke, NC, or UCLA. We are Michigan, Georgia Tech, and Oklahoma. We have had good years, and final four years, but we have never been a power.
Let the man re-build the program.

PRO all the way. If you have seen and/or attended a game, you would see that they are well coached but don't have enough quality athletics to close out the game.

I'm neither, because I really don't care much about basketball in general, though I always want LSU to fare well.
It just seems to me that Johnson is getting a pass for the same things that Brady did. One year, a talented team that has a good/great season, then when that talent graduates/leaves, a bad season. Then when the new talent develops, another good season. Johnson is supposedly getting a lot of incoming help next year. So in a few years we'll be good again. That is the same cycle we went through with Brady. We won't be able to judge him for years.
In order for him (and most college coaches) to develop a program, college basketball really needs rules like football or baseball as it pertains to the draft. The 1 or 2 year and gone guys are killing the sport and making it difficult to build a program.

This is exactly how I felt. I didn't know as much about Johnson at the time. I love everything he did with the team last year and feel like that was one of the most enjoyable teams that I have ever followed (and I've followed some really fun louisville teams in the past).
I am very pro and wouldn't trade him for Grant now (who I also still love as a coach).

I hope Johnson bitch slapps you SportzIQ.
Its one thing to build a program when the guy before you left the cabinet empty.
Its another thing to maintain a program when your cabinet was left with ELITE talent.
So stfu and quit starting shite when there is no need for it.

Not necessarily but yes. He is for the first year because Brady didnt leave him much after last years team. CJ chose to save some schollys for next year since we would be down this year. People are hoping CJ will keep the program consistently competetive unlike Brady. THAT is the difference plus he has only been here 2 years. China wasnt built in a day...or however that goes

it seemed like johnson enetered the race towards the very end, lsu (gasp) did a good job with their coaching search and took their time, it seemed the common lsu fan's wish list looked something like
grant
bennett
wildcard (mine was sean miller)
that being said, lsu made a very good hire. johnson is ALL BASKETBALL, no nonsense. i always think of the story of the guy who posted on here that he asked TJ if he wanted to play in some sort of baton rouge celebrity golf tournament or whatever and johnson just looks at him and says 'hey, i just coach basketball.' grant is a very good coach as well, but look at alabama this year. they might not be as talented as lsu was last season but i didn't see lsu lost to a fricking ivy league team at home. lsu eased through the sec schedule last season and deserved a better tournament seeding but gave it all they had. i am a very big lsu basketball fan, so much that it almost blinds me to make predictions sometimes because i never want to think about lsu losing a game, but even my most optimistic preseason prediction was third in the west. ole miss is a very good team, as is miss. state. alabama has the whole new coach breath of fresh air thing going for them and has a talented squad, auburn and arkansas are about on equal turf with lsu but those teams have coaches who have been where they are longer than trent who have brought in some guys who can play how they want to play. auburn isnt a good team but has a bunch of guys who can shoot the three, same with arky. we just aren't a very talented team. that is going to change. id like to make a more well thought out post about all this but quite frankly its friday and time for me to go home. just support the team. support the program. support the players. if one does not want to support the coach, that's there prerogative. im sure trent could give a frick what any of us think

Gotta give him at least 4 years to build the program back up. Re-evaluate the situation at that point.

Pro- he did an outstanding job last year with a team that was not ultra talented. He got the job late and really could not recuit his first year. He has signed some decent recruits this year; time will tell. Louisiana talent hasn't been that good lately, and let's face it, out of state recruits know that LSU is not a traditional power in basketball.
