Why LSU will win...The Mississippi State pass defense was supposed to undergo an overhaul from a group that struggled throughout last season, and it wasn’t pretty from the start. Southern Miss ripped up the Bulldog secondary with 311 yards and a score, and even though MSU had its moments with two good interceptions, it was a long day. LSU is going to need a little while to get the passing game rolling and efficient, but in terms of receiving corps, few offenses have more talent. It’s hardly a given that LSU will get consistent quarterback play out of Brandon Harris, but if he gets into a groove, the numbers will be there.

Why MSU will win....MSU got hit for 341 yards in last year’s game against LSU, and it still hung on. How did the Bulldogs win? They came up with a balanced attack with a good, strong ground game cranking out yards in chunks to go along with a big passing day from Prescott. They were effective and sharp from the start, LSU was a little sluggish, and they got the big win. This time around, Prescott will have to be terrific again, but it’ll be the running game that has to power up and rock like it did in the opener against USM, averaging more than seven yards per pop. LSU isn’t Southern Miss, but the running attack doesn’t appear to have missed a beat.

quote:

What will happen....LSU will be a little bit rusty, but the lines are going to come out firing. It’s going to be a statement game by the time the second half rolls around with the Tigers looking like an offensive machine. The atmosphere will be outstanding in Starkville, but LSU is just better

quote:

Prediction: LSU 31, Mississippi State 23, LSU -4, o/u: 49.5

I frickin love when people go off of last years shite. Do they not realize MSU lost pretty much everyone who isn't named Dak?

LSU DE's are still pretty poo, doe

Apparently quite a few people have yet to actually realize this.

This game shouldn't even be close. Mississippi State has, what, a grand total of seven returning players? Factor in the talent differential and the revenge element, and LSU should win this by 20+ points.

Yea, nobody is giving enough attention to how big of a factor not having a game under belt will be. We haven't played real football since the ND game, and Miss St has.
I still think we should win, but this wont be easy

I understand this line of thinking but do you actually believe they aren't capable of having guys ready to play and improve?

I think LSU wins but I am not on th bandwagon that says State cannot have players replace last year's players and not be good players.

No they wont be as good but then again LSU has questions too. D line is thin and we all know the tendencies on offense. Maybe that changed and they come out like last week but being away I,see Cam going to the run heavily at first

One could make a good faith argument we have not played "real football" since the BS personal foul that ultimately cost us the game versus Alabama.

We have lost three of our last four football games.

This game is HUGE for LSU on many levels. Lose tomorrow and you have to win against Auburn to even think about a shot at the West. Realistically, if we lose tomorrow, though not mathematically eliminated, we are effectively eliminated from SEC contention this year.

It doesn't get much bigger in many respects.

Absolutely not. This is the SEC. Backups in the SEC could play D1 at a lot of places, but you can't predict the outcome of THIS years game by going off of what happened with LAST years game/players.

Exhibit A...They get Harris for the whole game this time

They lost 3 starters on both lines (including 2 ALL SEC team players).
Sure, the guys they have will step in and improve from year to year just like anyone elses. But they consistently rank at the bottom of SEC West recruiting.
They won last year with a veteran group who ended up having a few "diamond in the rough" type players.

Most of our players are straight up diamonds.
And now most of them are veterans as well.

North Carolina, Washington, Oregon, TCU and Wisconsin all say hello. We started the season with these and won them all. I'm not worried about tomorrow.
