Breaux covers more ground that Duplantis?

What about Deichmann in the OF? He's fast. Could put him in LF/RF with AD sliding to CF....

Idc what their 60 times are, Greg is the slowest "fastest guy on the team" I've seen in decades. He's improved greatly at 1st base.

you more than likely don't know what fast is when you're looking at it.
He's not the fastest guy on the team, but around 5th. He's in the 92 percentile among runners.

That's fast enough for any OF, and with that bat, definitely fast enough.
He has gotten much more comfortable at 1B, but I just don't see him as a 1B in the pros, but I can see him as an OF - very athletic. I don't think most 1B are in the 92nd percentile.

When you post about Greg, you are posting about his speed.
He's not fast on the bases. He's not quick on the field. He can beat the pitchers and catchers and twins in a race around the bases. Throw in Ried. No one else.

Mainieri said this summer after tests he and Antoine were tied for fastest on the team with Breaux a hair behind then Fraley. There is zero times in which a 60 time is applicable in a baseball game and as ell HS pointed out that "speed" has translated exactly nowhere in his college game. He can't steal bases, he doesn't get out of the box quickly, what makes you believe he's going to be an excellent defender in a position in which being quick is a prerequisite. Cannot afford an outfield defense of Beau, Duplantis and Deichmann. That's double/triple city right there. Terrible suggestion.

I'm not disagreeing completely, but Mainieri will try and get him playing time in the infield before throwing him in the outfield. I've seen him play a couple times, lightning quick hands, good instincts, will be a good one. I think he'd be a better candidate to replace Chris Reid at 3rd than be an outfielder.

Barring anything too whacky, Mainieri is going to have to cut over 10 guys this fall. It's not a terrible problem to have.

Jake Slaughter IMO.

Yea, he decides to run slower when he puts on baseball pants. You're a smart one, you.
And you say that running in a straight line isn't applicable in baseball? I didn't think you could 1-up your comments from last night, but damn dude.
Bring a stopwatch next game you go to. The kid can really run. I don't really care what Ell says. He wanted him benched a few weeks ago and rags on Deichmann any chance he gets.

I wanted him DHing because he sucks at 1B. Never wanted his bat out the lineup. Bryce Jordan was playing a better 1B by far. And we aren't even talking about mechanics. His feet get stuck and can't seem to move laterally. And then there were the balls dropped right at his chest.

Where is Chris Reid going?

I just threw an idea out there per GD. Some good points were made on either side.
I do think that in the past, many OFs have been ridiculously fast. Beau is Def not the fastest but has a good glove.
In football defense wins games, but in baseball, you have to hit. With all respect to the Possum, our late season success is tied to increased offensive production.
GD's hitting has really come on as of late. I don't think he's played 1B ever before this year. So it's been a learning experience. We seem to have our MIF set. I'm just saying, maybe in summer league, learning the OF may unlock the optimal position......

Everyone also seems to forget lochridge will likely be back. Depth will not be an issue on the infield.
Posted on 6/11/16 at 7:55 am to josh336
Depth on INF will not be a problem, the problem will be playing time...too many good players, not enough positions...great problem to have if you are CPM...just hope he picks the best...
