His impact with a veteran unit has been impressive. Will be interesting to see the offense next year and how he handles it.

With that said, would you want him to be a coach in waiting for when PM leaves in the next 4/5 years.

I know LSU got burned with the Laval hire but do you keep a guy like Cannizaro or do you go out and get a proven head coach?

I don't know how much longer CPM has but I'd rather we keep Cannizaro as an assistant as long as we can, but if he's offered a decent HC gig, let him go. We can always go after him when CPM retires.

No.

He'll only have been an assistant for 5/6 years.

Paul Mainieri has been coaching for the past 32 years straight. I wouldn't be surprised if he were to look into retiring a few years for now.

That said, I hope he stays another decade. He needs another 509 wins to pass Skip up for wins as an LSU coach. That's only another 11-13 years.

I don't like coach in waiting too much but I hope we name Alan Dunn coach in waiting eventually. Like if he stays 2 or 3 more years name him that and maybe he will stay bc I love the guy as a coach. No way in hell in naming Andy that over him

A no brainer. Who would you rather have coaching LSU, a proven pro & college coach, with years & years on his resume, or one who has, at this point, less than one year of coaching experience total? With our veteran players, it's hard to give Cannizaro all the credit for our offensive explosion. Dunn, on the other hand, gets all the credit, from CPM & all around baseball.

I wonder if Cannizaro will get a call about the open UNO job? Not that I think he would take it because he will probably get better opportunities in a few years.

Cannizaro will be gone within a year or 2, and it wont be to LSU

We should hope that Tulane stays happy with their coach, because Cannizaro will be their first call, and considering his family history with Tulane, he's gone.

Andy will make a fantastic head coach one day. Hopefully he comes back to LSU down the line.

I know I am going to get flamed but I would still like to see Bianco back. I don't think they can pull in the talent like LSU can. Either him or the Virginia HC. I know they are having a rough year.

LSU should not have a succession plan in place ahead of time. They should have a national search including those on the staff currently and pick the right guy. Because LSU is like the Duke of baseball, I would imagine that the experienced candidates that would be interested would be pretty good.

ETA: I think we all know that when Mainieri calls it quits, it will be time to bring Matt Heath home.

Like Texas, no one messes with Matt Heath.
