Can we bury the permanent opponent debate now forever

LSU is in much better shape from a schedule standpoint by playing the Gators. The playoff selection committee will like that game over any other game on our schedule from the east. Two wins over Florida might be the only way we could qualify for playoffs this year.

If principle doesn't matter, let's drop it forever.

Yeah, I'm ready to be done with it...and play two different east opponents each season

This year has made the rivalry jump a couple of notches. I like it.

Or just use the schedule format proposal that SB nation made...three permanent rivals, play the other ten teams in a two year rotation where every 4 year player will have played every SEC team twice and at every stadium.

I've said all along I don't mind playing Florida as the permanent rival - if you're going to have a permanent rival to begin with. It definitely helps our schedule. But I think the idea of the permanent rival is dumb. It limits the frequency with which we get to play the other eastern teams. It's only there because of the Tenn v. Alabama sacred cow (and to a lesser extent, Auburn v. Georgia). One or two schools shouldn't be able to dictate the rules to the rest of the conference.

Roommate switch is the way to go!!!

I am still against the permanent opponent concept. We should alternate the teams in the east. I realize this will not change. We always get out voted because too many schools are happy with their cupcake scheduling arrangements.

So because it is working in our favor this year, that means everything is just great?

Ive never argued this. My gripe has always been that this rule is in place because of Alabama and Auburn.

Beating them a second time won't matter.

We need to get past Bama, TAMU & Arky first!!! No we can't bury the permanent debate. It is not fair for so many reasons but the biggest is being fair to ALL teams in the SEC. It is about being fair and if a team has to play one of the stronger teams in the SEC every year and other teams don't it is a distinct disadvantage. This isn't about Bama not playing UF every year like LSU does, this is about Aub, Bama, Tamu, Arky, State & Ole Piss not having to play UF every year. This isn't about Auburn having to playing UGA every year and LSU and Bama don't. This is about LSU, Bama, State, Ole Piss, Arky and Tamu not having to play UGA every year.
It has to be fair, right now it is anything but fair!!!

LSU fans won't be happy until they are given Vandy to play every year... Fricking sad.

I'm not. All this means is every other year i'm going to get a USCe, Vandy, Mizzou, Kentucy home game over the FLA game. I'd rather play FLA.

I still say if TN - Bama and Auburn - GA are so intent on play each other, put them in the east and then move Missouri and KY to the West. It would actually balance the conference much better in football

What a crock of shite and a STUPID statement. I don't give a shite if we have to play UGA and UF every year, as long as every team in the WEST has to do the same thing. I don't care if we have to play Vandy every year as long as EVERY team in the WEST has to play Vandy every year.
All I want "and I assume all smart LSU fans want" is the scheduling to be FAIR and it isn't fair if we have to play UF every year and another team in the west has to play Vandy every year, and there is absolutely no way you can argue it is fair in that situation.

9 games conference schedule, 1 permanent cross & 2 rotating

some opinions have changed on this topic since the 90s. The world will burn if the SEC does away with their sacred Third Saturday in October. Good gosh yes ready for the Permanent East oppponet to DIAF.
