Do we REALLY consider JJ a good hire, especially coming from Alleva who came to LSU from a basketball school?

If we are being honest very few believed it was a good hire.

There was optimism that it could work out, and his recruiting initially made it seem like the program could be on the upswing, but at the time of the hire, most people were disappointed.

Dale Brown told Alleva, "so let it be written, so let it be done."

Most didn't like the hire to start. Dale brown and Collins temple and former players made a big push to get JJ the job and our wonderful AD did his thing.

Because Dale Brown was so awesome and such an underperformer that LSU thought "by golly, surely because JJ trained under Brown, he'll do every bit as good"

Just look at all the reasons we hired Orgeron but add in that Jones actually had a decent coaching record.

Daddy Dale and Collis Temple said to. If not, LSU would be racist.

Actually, this is pretty true. There was a huge groundswell of people on this site hoping LSU would look past going for another "lower-mid-major name" or "past-prime bigger conference name" and help the efforts to reach back to the roots of the good times under Dale Brown. Anyone who denies that now has a really bad memory.

You can look up the thread to refresh your memory and you'll see that the hire was not at all loved.

Just a heads up - since this exact thread has been made 10,000 times this season, all the answers are going to be great.

Then real answer to why he was hired is because Alleva is stupid and Dale Brown and Collis Temple still flex their muscles over a subpar program.
