All I hear is LSU being a 3rd seed. Can they be a 4th seed and if not, why?

P5 teams have been #4 seeds plenty of times before, so it COULD happen. However, I can't recall an SEC team being a #4 seed any time recently.

We will most likely be a 3 seed or out.

Automatic qualifiers from small conferences are usually 4

It would be like an at large getting a 13 seed in March madness. I think it’s happened but I’m not certain

Asked about this in a thread earlier. After some thought, if I were a 1 seed getting paired up with LSU, I wouldn’t be too excited even though how this is a down year for LSU Baseball. Seems you would have to consider throwing your ace in game 1.

No. All 4 seeds are automatic qualifiers from smaller conferences. All at large bids are 3 seeds at worst. Same reason no at large bids are worse than 12 seeds in basketball. It's not a rule but it's just how the math works.

To be a 4 seed would mean LSU isn’t one of the 48 best teams in the country.

Season has been bad but not that bad.

Oh yeah is that so?

I guess if we include Big10 as a P5 conference in baseball then maybe a couple P5 teams have gotten a 4 in the past, even though they shouldnt be included since the Big10 hardly ever is one of the top 7 conferences in baseball. Sun Belt routinely finishes ahead of the Big10 in baseball.

4 seeds are reserved for less talented teams from small conferences that earn automatic bids

ETA - think march madness... what seed does the last 4 in and the bubble teams get? 11 seeds and 12 seeds. Why? Because the 13-16 seeds (4 seeds in baseball regionals) go to the automatic qualifiers from bad conferences.
