Curious to the reaction to this. Cameron says plays are his to call, but he wants Miles' input:

Interesting quote from Cameron in the story:

quote:

"Personally, I think that's why some teams get in trouble," Cameron said. "They have guys trying to make their mark within a team."

Evidently, there are some big egos in this business that do want their own fiefdoms. I suppose that's true in any business with a lot of high achievers who are brought in to "do their thing."

I don't think it's a given that an OC would come in and concede to the team culture.

So in your world, have no O line coaches ever been promoted to OC?

Oh I'm sure it has happened plenty of times. I asked whether it's typical for a program like LSU. It's not like we have to wonder whether it was the right decision at the time. It's pretty obvious that it didn't turn out very well.

Well yea its a team call. Hes the OC. He cant publicly go out there and say Miles, the head coach, has no say is what we do as an offense. Cant do that. Chain of command.

Im sure what he means is that they will implement an offense that Miles likes, power running game, and 1 that is advanced in the vertical passing game.

Which I love. I really wish we could run the type of offense Stanford runs. They are the 1 team outside the SEC that has a legit power running game and that i respect.. And they also have a great play action and vertical passing game.

Not sure if it's that article or another I read recently, but Cam flat out says "that's pretty much how it works everywhere".

He would be correct. Miles may give him a nod every now and then but if Cam's offense is successful he'll be calling the shots. Miles only interfered after shite going wrong for too long. He won't interfere with Cam. He is too respected of a coach.

I certainly can't recall any other big-time coach doing this in August after their actual OC was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease...

Right. Because that is specifically what Cam was talking about.

He certainly was not referring to head coaches having a say in the offense. He was trying to say that big time coaches pretty much everywhere promote their O line coach to offensive coordinator after the OC gets diagnosed with Parkinson's.

Is it beating it to death? I haven't seen Cameron talk about it a whole lot, not since when he got hired. Les has talked about it alot. Players too.

But it's nice to see Cameron address it and address it well.

So the head coach actually has input... SHOCKING NEWS!!!!

I don't understand how some of you don't see the double standard. First of all, when LSU drills a winless Auburn 12-10 some posters complain that Les Miles is "meddling in the offense". The Les Miles fanboys will cry, I watched the game, and Les isn't calling the plays. Coach Stud is the OC. But now, when Cam Cameron says, "Of course the head coach has input, it's like that everywhere." The same Les Miles fanboys jump in and say, "You see, it happens everywhere."

So what is it, the steaming pile of mediocrity that has been the LSU offense for the last 4 years has been the fault of 2 different offensive coordinators? Or now you are saying that Les Miles is "like other head coaches" so he stays very involved in the offensive direction, so I guess you are saying that the one constant in the last 4 years passing offense ranked in the 100s is Les Miles?

Quick question, how much input does Les Miles give to John Chavis?

Wait, are we now pretending that Studrawa wasn't the OC in 2011 and 2012, before Krags was even in the picture?

I would imagine Les sets the tone with Chavis. Like Cameron talks about. Miles might be in his ear telling him things like "They can't stop our offense, so let's not gamble and risk giving them easy points.' Or, just the opposite if the offense is struggling.

Since you apparently have an inside track to the workings of LSU football, you tell us. I know that you have attended lots of game planning meetings, practice seeeions and have an inside track to what goes on on the phones during a game, so please let us in on your inside knowlege. Tell us how many times and what exact calls has Les made on the defensive side of the ball.
Tell us now.
You know all this stuff.
Share it.
Tell us how many and how often.

Pretty much amounts to "I do the game planning. I suggest a play, and Miles either gives it the go ahead or axes it."

13-0 regular season, SEC champs, played in the national championship game...I'd say given the circumstances it turned out fine. Now, should Les have made a change at the end of the year, hard to say. I'm sure he thought, like everyone did, that Mettenberger would be an upgrade and the same philosophy would produce a better offense in 2012. Didn't work out that way and he made a change.
