Cam Cameron calling plays on the field this year

Does it really matter is we continue to call the same three running plays 80% of the time?

If we continue to see a lack of creativity then it doesn't matter. The plays that are called will make a difference not where Cam Cameron is sitting and/or standing when he calls the plays.

This is a GREAT move and one I've been hoping would come for a while now.

1) This gives the OC the ability to call llays in on the field and not trough the head set relay.

2) He gets to interact with his offensive players continuously instead of 1 time at half or over the phone which is needed in college football much more so than NFL. They can provide instant feedback; he can make instant adjustments. Face to face >>>>> headset talks

I never understood why you would want your coaches in a fricking box to begin with. Really dumb.

I will tell you, this is the exact opposite of what OSU did last year. Herman called plays from the box in 2014, then Warriner called them from the field the first 11 games last year. When Warriner moved up to the box he was able to call plays much more effectively.

Disclosure: OSU has co OCs and Meyer also is involved in play calling so having an OC in the box allows the plays to come in in a more timely manner with that system.

So it may work, it may not.

Other coaches up in the box can just tell the OC about the defense?? That would seem to be a pretty easy problem to fix.
Can't hurt to try something different.

TD Posters love them some coach on the field rhetoric, like it matters. Is Norm Chow some kind of savant who is capable of calling a game from the box, or, rather, is it just not really significant in the grand scheme of things?

That's true but you are then relying on what others are seeing and reporting. Most coaches I have ever met or played for are a bit egotistical (not necessarily a bad thing) and trust their own eyes and judgement more than someone else's.

Not saying its better to be in the box or on the sideline. just pointing out the reasons some coaches prefer to be in the box.

How much say does Miles have in the play call?

OSU had problems because Meyer has his hands in a lot of the play calling. Warriner would make a play recommendation to Beck (co OC/QB coach) in the box, who may disagree, and then it would go to Meyer on the field and back around. OSU moved Warriner out of his role as OL coach this year so he could move to the box specifically for play calling reasons

Seems like if you have 1 guy calling plays it would be better to me, or maybe 1 guy and then the head coach giving his say

DUde the proof is what happened in the Texas Tech game. GO back and watch it. He was the sidelines and when Harris got rattled he settled him down. He made a big difference being there for Harris.
