Cam Cameron : 'I'm the ghost chaser'

Cam Cameron describes how to handle young QBs: 'I'm the ghost chaser'
LINK
No. 1 you have to be careful. You have to be careful about planting,” Cameron said. “You're trying to teach a lesson, but you plant too many seeds in a guy's head, and now he starts chasing ghosts. I tell the QBs I'm the ghost chaser. I'm the guy who plays the scenario game. You cover one thing with a young player, and then they fixate on it. Now, they become blind to other things. You have to be smart.
“With veteran quarterbacks, I got this from Peyton Manning, I said, ‘Give me your take on information in between series.' For him, what worked for him is less is best. Why? Because he is so prepared, and sometimes quarterbacks that are really prepared, all you have to do is say one thing and ‘I got you, Coach.' It triggers the brain and the thought process, so less is best.

Wish we had Cam when Lee was a TF

There's so much truth in just one short quote.

Hard to question him when it comes to QBs:
Brees
Rivers
Flacco
Mett

How in the hell can our grass eating, proposition dangling, high hat wearing, seal clapping, not able to tell time, buffoon of a head coach possibly be able to ascertain the mental status of a kid by metaphorically using his eyes as tea leaves?
....is what you bunch of nega's will say.

I think a lot of people forget that coaches can improve, just like the players. It seems like its taken Cam a while to adjust to the college game rather than coaching all pro QB's (imagine how much different those two things are) and he's truly in the process of learning how to communicate with 18 year olds. I'm really excited about our where our offense is going to go as he progresses as a coordinator

He developed those QBs, he got them coming into the league when they were young.
Brees actually came from a spread offense and ran a lot in college. Cam turned that into an asset as a pocket passer and worked on using his athleticism inside the pocket

Cameron did well with Antwaan Randle El at Indiana. 7500 yards passing and 3900 rushing in four years.

possibly, but more likely it is a case of "I can quickly get this kid to a 6.5 this year by short-circuiting the process, but he'll probably stay there, or we can live with a 5 this year while enduring the learning process and get him to a 8 or 9 next year."

Here's a novel thought and idea for Cam. How bout not watering down the offense for QB's that can't mentally process what you want to do. Why not recruit QB's that can handle the workload at an SEC Championship level.
Cam and Les are just "Eliminating liquid waste in the Wind" if they can't or wont do that.
QB "Square Peg-Round Hole has to go Around the Hole and Down the Bowl." (Like Bama)........................

You do realize that this is the first year he's got the potential to have a starter that he recruited right?
But keep spewing your negativity and idiocy. It suits you well.

Didn't he get to coach TWO Riversses?

Good article. A breath of fresh air compared to the normal coach-speak / obfuscation. Last year was frustrating but I have to believe that Cameron has made progress, especially with Harris. As the old saying goes, the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores.

I die a little inside every time I read your posts. You, Dukke V, ShortyRob, Lee Chattlein, and CptBengal are about the worst posters on this site regardless of team affiliation.
At least that Spiderman poster went back into his spider hole for a while.

Cam's starting QBs in the NFL averaged 3.2 years of experience during his tenure. He wasn't working with seasoned veterans during most of his tenure.
I remember Chargers fans went crazy because he really brought Rivers along slowly, even when he started playing. He's very intentional about the way he handles these guys. There will be hiccoughs this year as well but you're going to see very healthy growth.

I think he's trying to tell us through code that "Les is best", aka, Les over-rules all his play calls.
