And? Point is, people are laughing at them. And if Kentucky doesn't dodge the NCAA bullet (as Memphis and UMass did not), then they will be laughing a lot more.

If you don't care about people laughing at the program, then don't sweat it. But the fact Kentucky is winning doesn't change the fact that people are laughing at them for hiring an NCAA magnet like Calipari.

Nobody's laughing at Kentucky, besides you & a few couch potato coaches here.

LSU no longer has Basketball program.

Whether anyone laughs at LSU is irrelevent at this point.

That's fine, and that's clearly your approach. But that does not support your assertion earlier that no one is laughing at Kentucky. There are people out there who think it's foolish to invite trouble with the NCAA, and believe that Kentucky is doing just that.

Trent came into a terrible situation. He has won everywhere he has coached. You can't rebuild from nothing in 2 years (unless your name is Calipari)

He has good recruits coming in. He is going to be good. Pearl has too much mess around him, he is a goo coach, but nothing we want to get involved in.

Perfect timing! Bruce will sit out 1 year due to the mess that's going on. Trent will have another lackluster year. LSU needs to get Bruce then. Look what he did with bringing no blue chippers. He turned Tennessee from nothing to something. What he did was minor. He will bring butts to the seats and make LSU relevant again. He is everything
LSU would need. He was one of the top 3
coaches in the SEC. That isn't saying too
much but he will bring tons of excitement
back to a program who has hasn't been
consistent since the 80's. I may get
backlashed for this post but what do we have to lose people?

My problem with TJ is the team shows very little signs of good coaching. If the team lost, but played the right way, I would be more understanding. Losing and playing crap ball is not acceptable.

Oh and Bruce Pearl is a no good snitch who got what was coming to him. The whole state of Illinois has been ready to lynch him for 21 years.

Okay, so let's continue to have another season like we did last year. The problem is the younger generation doesn't know what it was like back in the 80's when it was actually the deaf dome. You are content with mediocrity and are okay with football and baseball carrying the load. Well, I'm not. We are a sleeping giant in basketball too like we once were in football. The right person with more skills than just coaching needs to be here. We need a great coach, recruiter, marketer and PR coach to get this sleeping
giant kick started. Bruce is the only coach available that has all these factors. We can be again what we once was.

Ha! I already feel like we've been on probation since the 80's excluding a couple decent seasons. How much worse could it get. Haha

We all know that TJ will be back next year and it's probably a make or break season for him. So this is not a commentary on how good of a coach he is, how long he should keep his job, etc.

But all the speculation over the probation thing seems ridiculous given that we couldn't be worse as a team RIGHT NOW even if we were under the worst NCAA sanctions possible.

Pearl's tenure at Tennessee brings into question much of the conventional wisdom about the LSU basketball program. Some believe LSU isn't a "basketball school", yet somehow Bruce Pearl was able to guide Tennessee to the NCAA tournament in each of his six seasons. Are they more of a "basketball school" than we are? Not historically. Our recruiting has suffered, some say due to the lack of talent in Louisiana. Yet the Vols were able to field a pretty successful team this season with only four players from the state of Tennessee.

Each of the last six years LSU fans have ridiculed Bruce Pearl for his antics and Tennessee for hiring him, yet we've made the NCAA tournament only twice in that time period.

Again, not saying whether or not TJ should remain head coach and for how long. I am saying that Bruce Pearl is an outstanding basketball coach, that he pretty much disproves the whole "basketball school" theory, and I am saying that IF there is a vacancy at LSU in the future, I would have no problem with Pearl being hired. I do agree with the Dale Brown comparison- that he would be able to regenerate interest in the basketball program at LSU the way he did at Tennessee.

Ummm, he got caught cheating twice and got fired by UT.

I cant believe some of you dipshits would rather cheat to win than have some honor. Really pathetic. Didn't we just make fun of USC for doing this with Kiffin?

I live about an hour from Tennessee. I don't want ANY of their rejects. Period.

There are better coaches out there. Don't need a lying, cheating snitch.

The death penalty is far, FAR worse than we are right now (you were the one who brought up "the worst NCAA sanctions possible", not us). And, for the umpteenth time, major basketball sanctions affect other programs -- i.e., Football -- as well. And for what? They guy cheats and still hasn't even made a single Final Four. Brady had sanctions, didn't cheat, sucked as a coach, and even he made the Final Four in just 8 years. Is a basketball program equal to Tennessee's -- who just lost in the first round of the NCAA's, by the way -- really worth jeopardizing our other sports programs, like FOOTBALL?

Bruce Pearl the Con Man

This article tells you all you need to know about Pearl. He is a snake. He has made himself out as a martyr in this Tennessee deal and he will do the exact same things again if given the opportunity.

For all you morons wanting Bruce Pearl to be LSU's next coach immediately, keep this in mind. Pearl is likely facing a "show-cause" penalty from the NCAA. If he gets this penalty (and its likely he will) then whatever sanctions he gets from the NCAA will follow him to the next school that hires him. For a specified period of time, any school that wants to hire him must "show cause" why they want to do so and why the sanctions shouldn't come with him.

Sounds like a good plan for LSU. They should INTENTIONALLY put themselves on probation.

If Pearl is hit with a "show cause" then, according to past examples, he won't get to coach at all. His sanctions could possibly follow him, but more than likely he'd just be out of coaching all together so no need to dream about him in purple and gold.

Coach Montgomery at UCAL. Berkley, previously coached at Stanford before TJohnson and had excellent record, still UCal Berkley hit with NCAA violation below.
The report notes that the violations began shortly after the hiring of Coach Mike Montgomery and his staff in the spring of 2008. The university’s compliance office “acted quickly” to train the new coach and his staff about NCAA rules and “had processes in place to monitor recruiting telephone calls.” Reviewing these records in the fall of 2008, the compliance officer discovered these violations.

Still, I think Coach Montgomery is a winner and a much better coach than TJ.

Yes, just like Kelvin Sampson did when he left OU and went to IU.
