you mean when roy williams and kansas illegally contacted lester earl to come play for them after lester made up those stories to get us in trouble? is that whart you're talking about?
No, I'm pretty sure he's talking about the NCAA sanctions and probation that actually happened and were not made up by Lester Earl. The NCAA (and everyone else) remembers that we were in trouble with the NCAA, so getting in more trouble is just that much riskier. Has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact it was all bullshite; it's on our record.

think about it like if jim tressel got fired and indiana football went after him. everybody knows he's dirty, but would it be a bad move considering the state of their program?
Probably so, but even if it isn't, so what? On the success/accomplishments side of the ledger, Bruce Pearl is no Jim Tressel. Not by a million miles.

I would be elated if LSU could get Pearl here. If things don't work out with Trent, make it happen.

Let's do it big. What would it take to get Tom Izzo here?

I would rather have a "cheating" program that WINS rather than an "honest" program that LOSES.

Though I would choose differently, I am mostly baffled by you supposition; why would an honest program that wins not be an option?

this is so wrong.

LSU would be the laughingstock of ESPN (for HOOPS).

hiring a known cheat?

PS He never even got to the final four.

based on results, he's good but not great.

he's a lot of fun, I admit.

I agree with your statement. That said, I can't get around the cheating issue. Pearl will be back in the spotlight sooner rather than later, and in another 7 years or so, he'll be back to coaching at a national university. But the time to hire him is not now.

On a side note, I personally hate the fact that we let a guy like Mike Anderson go to Mizzou while we kept Brady around.

LOL at anyone wanting Bruce Pearl

Agreed, Pearl is a joke he was LUCKY to get the Tenn job after what he did as an assistant at Iowa (taped conversation with a recruit then turned it over to the NCAA to try and bust Illini)... then to have so many violations at Tenn just reeks of stupidity.

Well, I am, but it has nothing to do with their coach . . . or basketball.

Many people laughed at Kentucky hiring Calipari, and many more are likely to be laughing when/if NCAA sanctions are handed down as a result of his actions.

If he didn't have this cheating thing over his head, I'd be all over it. Pearl knows the game and gets good recruits. So I'm conflicted. Either way, I'm not much of a poster on LSU basketball, but Trent's time has come to kiss the bricks.

Can't disagree there.

He has not had any real success since he arrived in Red Stick

He won the SEC in 08-09. Not just the West, the whole damn thing. If you're going to criticize (which is warranted), at least give credit when it's due.

quote:

We had no problem packing John Brady's bags for him when he had a horrible year when his players were plagued with injuries. This, of course, happening the year after he led them to the Final Four!

It was two seasons after the Final Four appearance

quote:

So who should be the next hire? Bruce Pearl

Yes he was sucessful at Tenn. Yes he built a solid program. Yes he brought excitement to the program. He also committed major NCAA infractions. Whether you personally feel they were minor in nature, the fact is that he broke rules. He was suspended by the conference for half of the SEC season! When has that ever happend? Obviously the comissioner felt the violations were serious.

Your bio says that you are a teacher and coach. As a coach, are you openly advocating violating rules as long as they are "minor" infractions? Would you lie to your superior with the justification that "it's just small violations, no one was hurt and we can keep winning?" What kind of example does that set?

Ultimately LSU may need a new basketball coach. If TJ doesn't improve the program next year, then I'll be on the bandwagon with those wanting a new coach. However, hiring Bruce Pearl would open up the ENTIRE athletic program to intense scrutiny. LSU doesn't need to reduce itself to that level.

I'd trade in a heartbeat. If the gears aren't spinning in our AD's brain, already, they need to start.

Pearl is EXACTLY what LSU needs. Excitement.

Having said that, no chance in hell we do anything that creative.

The "Laughing people" are watching KY on TV, as their own Corch & team aren't going anywhere. Couch Potato critics.

Calipari in year 1 at KY, had them in the Elite 8.
