Or...everyone who thought Kelly was leaving was a dumbass.

Either/or.

David Shaw at Stanford 2.0.

As soon as Harbaugh's players start graduating or transferring, Michigan's program will start to decline.

Watch Notre Dame too. Once Kelly's guys start to depart, Marcus Freeman will show that he's "In Over His Head" as well.

Promoting to HC from within rarely works out. I don't think Sharrone Moore will last either.

Hiring new head coaches at the highest level of college programs rarely works out period.

Going to Michigan is a hard spot right now, just like taking the Alabama job. You can be good, and it not be enough. 9-3 ain't gonna cut it more than 1 year, before the pressure kicks up bigtime.

That's one of the reasons I always thought Kelly was staying here. He followed O's collapse, so there's no pressure to be Saban, or even to match what Les did for the first half of his career. We said at the time, it was a pleasure to just get a competent coach here.

Alabama and now Michigan don't want competent, they want playoffs and titles.

I feel like this is a cheap throwaway hire for Michigan. That whole roster will be new and inexperienced and they’re facing NCAA sanctions. So they hire a likable non-controversial and inexpensive player’s coach to get through the next few seasons which were inevitably going to be down compared to last year anyway. Bonus points for diversity. Then in 3 years they’ll hire a proven coach and get serious again about competing.

To be fair, Shaw kept Stanford fairly good even way after Harbaugh’s players were gone

This thread title makes it seem like BK made some sort of decision. He didn’t.

He has about the same record but he inherited a better situation with a much easier path to success Given that, I’d say BK is actually doing better

I agree, just saying using Marcus as an example of a bad promotion, at least at this point in his coaching career, wouldn’t be something I’d reference.

He may flop or continue to maintain. Too early to tell.

so you saying BK turned the job down...

That’s what people close to both programs have implied.

They implied that if offered he would go due his strong ties with the state of Michigan.

And I’m not sure I would consider Mascona as being close to the program. I’m pretty sure he and TexasAgs Billy Liucci are the ones who everybody is referencing as their source.

Michigan reached out to gauge Kelly’s interest. He turned them down.

He’s committed to what he’s building here. This is a massive win for LSU

If anyone here posts on texags, spread the good news.
