Compound fracture means the bone should be sticking out through the skin. Kind of hard to not notice that.

He simply doesn't know what a compound fracture is. I don't think it's a grand conspiracy.

Not necessarily, I had a compound fracture of my elbow without that happening

Hopefully the fracture isn’t too bad and his recovery will be quick if he thought it was a bruise and still went fishing. It sounds like something I would do.
