Nice post. Welcome to TD, RLR.

Very well done RL. Nice insights into the strengths/weaknesses of your Nittany Lions. Looking forward to a great game.

Nice posts by RLR, good start to this thread, hopefully some more PSU fans show up over the next few weeks.

If they can keep the pressure off of Clark, they'll do OK. If not, he takes the most obvious sacks you can ever imagine. What I mean is that he'll have a guy putting straight up pressure in the middle and not try to evade the sack. It's maddening.
Watch any game with Jordan Jefferson this year.

However, he's pretty good at getting through the line and spooking the QB. He rarely runs them down, but he can take a QB out of his rhythem.
See this is where we've gotcha .. we don't use rhythem. We've tried it a couple times but our coaches picked up on it, and wisely called time out.

Great post! I think this is probably the most intriguing games of the bowl season. I look forward to a great game and hope LSU can pull it out. They should if they play good. In my younger days, I could not stand Joe Pa, but in the last few years, I have not only respected the man, but admiration as well. He is a great ambassador for CF and Penn St. He has given back alot of $ to the university. Penn St should be proud and I'm sure most are. Here's to Joe Pa

And this is all comming from an ohio state fan that is 0 for 8 or 9 against sec teams so i don't put any stock in what he says.

Sprint: Yup you are right, it would be more pathetic if it wasnt for the average split with the SEC, no doubt about it (but ofcourse that does not distract from the fact that year in and year out there is a clear pattern in both overall record and BCS bowls that are undeniable).
RLR:
Nothing says control like negative yardage on 4 consectutive drives. Gotcha.
It is not that complicated, you said " Clark tends to disappear in big games UNLESS he's running." I am simply asking where this UNLESS comes from (obviously you are inferring there were some big games he did not disappear). Is that clear enough now? What are these big games to which you reference (and this is an honest question).
Paranoid much? Where in hell did you get the up north slow bullshite from? Because I dont think one of your players is in the same league with the fricking winner of the 100 metre championship? Gosh, why would I think that... I said I think Devin is quick but not championship quick (and given he was not in such races and his times were not of such level... it doesnt take a genius), but oh yes must be geography... are all of you so complex paranoia driven (FYI Holliday ran a 9.991 to win that championship which officially gets rounded up to 10.00 in the sport... if you wish to interpret that as not sub 10 then that says more about you then anyone).
I am not sure Bama forced us to pass the ball. 133 yards gross on the ground with more rush attempts then pass attempts.
Not stellar by anymeans but not completely shut down. I will entertain the thought of PSU shutting down our run game when I see some examples of some big athletic teams to which they have accomplished that (sorry I dont put NW in the category)

You can tongue-in-cheek me about Devon Smith all you want. No. He doesn't run a sub-10 100. Of course according to LSU's site neither does Trindan... LSU Holliday Bio Smith does, however, have comparable 55 and 60M indoor track times, running a 6.21 55 and a 6.64 60 in high school. Those are nothing to scoff at and are in Trindan's league. I always laugh this time of year when I talk about a Penn State player being fast and I'm mocked. People can run fast up here, too...

Royster is fast.
I disagree with the original poster from THE OSU.
Royster is indeed something we have seen before, but that doesnt mean LSU can do anything about it.
He may singlehandedly keep Penn State in the game with special teams play.
Also, your attempted put-down of the State Penn player who went out with a concussion lacks both class and sanity. Do you propose that if the player only had the heart of a lion, he would have pushed the trainer aside and put his helmet back on?
You are speaking false doctrine.
The appropriate response when someone has a concussion is not to shove him back into the game.

That just shows you dont know the LSU team.
Actually, the OC Crowton passes when he doesnt have to.
He chooses to pass to throw off any sign of 'tendencies'.
The tendencies actually control OC Crowton
such that
when LSU needed 4 or 6 yards to make the winning field goal easier
instead of running for a yard or three a couple of times and then making the makable field goal
he called two passing plays
- one for a short loss
= and the other for a sack that put them out of field goal range
necessitating a long pass which was caught, but time ran out
when
(insert explanation that makes sense, no one would believe it)
anyway, they didnt have the field goal team ready so they didnt kick the winning field goal.
That's OUR OC for you.
You dont have to stop the LSU run game. In fact, if LSU gains too much yardage on the ground OUR OC will pass two or three times to show you he wont be put in some predictable box.
You betcha! He's so full of himself he wouldnt know a sure-fire running situation if it bit him in the butt.

That stats seem to back up my opinion that Clark just isn't that good of a QB in big games, even though he is regarded as a "threat"
Clark has won more big games than that. This stat is bandied about but they always leave out MSU this year and last, both about 30 point wins. This year PSU was fighting for a BCS berth and last year they were shooting for the Big Ten Crown. They won against Illinois at night in 08 when that was considered a big game, and beat Oregon State by about 35.
They did lose against Iowa in 08 and 08, and OSU in 09, and the Rose bowl. But there were other big games that Clark performed very well.
I'd have to check the stats from the Rose bwol, but he had a pretty decent game then also.

IMO LSU (with the exception of only a few plays) is good enough for a NC run when things work out. Bama nearly lost to LSU, TN, and AuBarn this year- just shows how all great teams need some good luck. I can't say the same about Penn St., but then again I haven't watched them all year. If LSU can gel like Les gets them to for Bowl games they will have no trouble at all beating the lions. GEAUX SEC

Honestly, with the great post above by post...the only thing I would disagree with this that LSU will/should win by more than a little more. Other than that...great post...well said!
I see the score:
LSU 31
Penn St. 7
I think Penn State will struggle to score, LSU's defense is very staunt and will do so against PSU.
PSU scored 24 on USC in the Rose Bowl last year and was 10 yards away from another TD when time expired in the game. No one is telling me that LSU's defense is a mirror of the 2008 USC defense that had Ray Malaluga, Brian Cushing, Clay Mathews, and Taylor Mays. PSU will score a lot more than 7.

Also it's worth noting that I've seen a lot of JoePa's career stats thrown round, or his recent record thrown around. For those who don't know JoePa basically does nothing from a coaching stand point. His son Jay actually has a much bigger role within the team than Joe, TBH. He's the epitome of figurehead right now.
LOL! A Buckeye who thinks he knows what he's taking about. Why don't you take a look at this 83 year old "figurehead" at practice:

Michigan State? Michigan fricking State? That's your ace in the hole? Last year stuff the box and you win. This year show up to the game you win. Realllllly impressive stuff.
Illinois and Oregon St are pretty weak "marquee" wins, and it seems like you're grasping at straws, but whatever helps you sleep at night.
