I am very happy with Danny Etling's QB play, but if he should get injured could we expect better QB play from Harris under the new coaching regime?

There is no question Harris would benefit from better playcalling. However, when Etling played under Miles, his performance was night and day from Harris. Harris' woes aren't all on the old regime.

Harris has all the physical tools. Not sure he has the other tools required, though.

Jeremy Johnson is the QB Les wanted before he offered Harris

Ready topic... Everything else disregarded

Do people not realize that when Etling came in under Les that our offense instantly became better. Miles wasn't holding Brandon back, Brandon was holding himself back. He had his chances and now if need be, as in Etling gets injured, Brandon will hopefully be ready to go. But other than that no chance he gets another chance after how much Danny changes this offense.

Unlike many others here, I don't think Harris' problem is that he doesn't understand the scheme. I think his problem is he is horribly inaccurate in the short/intermediate game. I don't think that he can't make the reads, I just think he ignores them because he KNOWS he can't make that throw.

He doesn't have the strongest arm but I will take a guy that has the intelligence to run this offense and let the talent do the rest.

I knew he was going to have troubles at LSU. I watched Harris in the QB challenge on TV. I remember him not hitting any of the targets. And I thought he sucked. Then he got upset and just started humming the ball. Ball had some zip. His coach warned him not to go to LSU. And then said it again in the season. IMO Harris should transfer. It's best for him.

Confused look and pouty look.

Not a good combo for a qb.

Obviously O thinks Etling is the better qb. I don't think he's said three words about BH since he took over

It has been mentioned here before and find and ask any former player and they'll tell you the same thing. BH doesn't have it between the ears. He has all the tangibles of an awesome QB minus the being able to decipher and make critical game time decisions. Not a knock on him, just might take another season to get use to it.

Yeah, this is bullshite. His problem is an inability to hit short to medium range passes and go through progressions. Kid is plenty bright enough.

I asked the exact same question yesterday and got over 100 down votes. God speed Zelig

First, I am sorry that I missed your original post and duplicated your question. It is hard to keep up!

Second, I don't understand the down votes to this question. I think that it is very fair to ask if Brandon Harris under Coach O is a better quarterback than Brandon Harris under Coach Miles.

BH always had that confused look on his face. Not all his fault. The system let him down.

Right. Those darn systems that require reading defenses and going through progressions...

Is there a system out there that requires neither?

The read option only has 1 read.

I doubt he plays better until he gets a system designed for a single read...he cannot run zone read...scan progressions for multiple receivers...get the play in ..called...to the line and make pre-snap and post -snap reads....you are asking for a miracle....he got by on speed..a big arm...and wide open receivers...those days are gone

At 7-0 last year before the O-Line disintegrated:

quote:

Brandon Harris Top Graded QB in SEC

The strength of Harris’ passing this season has been working the middle of the field between the numbers on passes of 10 or more yards, working in behind the safeties and linebackers who have moved up in the box to defend Fournette’s runs. Harris has completed 13 of 26 passes in this range for 395 yards, earning a +5.5 PFF passing grade on these throws. Compare that to SEC West rival Jake Coker (who gets to work off of star Alabama RB Derrick Henry’s ground attack), who has gone 13-of-34 for 318 yards on those throws, but has tossed five interceptions as well, earning a -1.2 grade (although Coker has been even worse on throws closer to the line of scrimmage).

quote:

Most accurate QB under pressure: Brandon Harris, LSU

He didn’t have the highest completion percentage on throws under pressure, but Harris suffered from his receivers dropping seven passes. Under pressure, now returning SEC quarterback had a higher adjusted completion percentage than Harris’ 67.2 percent.

Runner-up: Chad Kelly, Ole Miss

You forget who was still coaching in that Auburn game? Nothing here to argue Harris had his chance and failed let's move along.

You have your impressions, I have my :sources:. But FWIW, I have talked to guys on both sides of the ball and they both have said that hes athletic but not football savvy.
