I was listening to the radio last night and a caller said that Brandon throws a ball with alot of spin and it makes it easier to catch. He also said that he was very hard to sack, very slippery and was only sacked a few times his senior year. He had seen most of his games since his son was the back up qb for Parkway..........what about the spin? i never heard of this before ((easier to catch?) :dude: :dude: :geauxtigers: :geauxtigers: :geauxtigers: :geauxtigers: :geauxtigers:

Spirals are easier to catch than ducks. It's why no one says, "that guy sure throws a pretty duck".

It just means that he throws a right spiral. Whereas a fricking duck is hard to catch.

Really has little to do with being easier to catch but the tighter/faster the spin (or revolutions) the more velocity.

Moscona always says "he's got some spin on it" meaning it's a tight spiral that is thrown hard

I thought this thread was going to have some sort of news info and an alternate interpretation of said news.

He does throw with a really tight spin. It looks pretty in the air....then in the clutches of our guys.

Did you see the 3 yard TD he threw to the TE? He stuck it in his chest where he couldn't drop it.

I believe the best thrown ball is suppose to have a bit of longitudinal wobble to it.

Maybe he excels at longitudinal wobble.

This.

Manning throws a wobbly spiral and people seem to think that is easier to catch than a tight spiral. But a true "duck" isn't just hard to catch, but it's hard to be accurate with.

A "duck" pass flutters in the air / wind, making it harder to be accurate with because the wind can push it off course. While a tight spiral can rip through the air / wind, making it a more accurate pass.

And it's a much prettier ball than a wobbly or duck pass.

I saw that too. I think it was discussed during the sports science that was done with Drew Brees.

Honestly, the spin is more about the ball getting there than catchability. A good spiral allows the ball to carry more velocity and it tends to be more accurate.

It's not a hard and fast rule, though. Peyton Manning doesn't usually throw a tight spiral, but he gets the job done.

I would have to assume the spiral produces air flow that moves the laminar boundary away from the surface of the ball, reducing drag kind of like the dimples on a golf ball.

I was wondering about that laminar boundary and how it was impacted by the spiral.

Skip to 6 minutes for the science part. Whole video is good too though.

Yeah that was a dart that hit the bullseye.

I also loved the Logan Stokes was in the back of the endzone waiving his hands after the ball was already thrown. Im sure our TE's are a sad bunch.

Harris is special. He'll start Saturday and won't give up the position for 4 years.

His TD to dupre was a bit wobbly. Still perfectly placed.
