Bowden Solution

I keep hearing people say that we should keep Miles and hire a new OC while others say those people are idiots because that's been done many times already and didn't work. I believe they're both right. Here's what I think would be the best solution although it won't happen since the train appears to have left the station.
Let's call it the Bobby Bowden option. During his last years, Bowden was the face of the program, recruited, and managed the overall team at a very high level. He did not touch either the offense or the defense. I'm sure many will recall he didn't even wear a headset during games and even did an interview during the 3rd quarter of the National Championship game against Vick and VT.
This is what should have happened here. Miles is a great representative of LSU and a very good recruiter. The man deserved to go out with respect and the way other great coaches have left their schools. We should have told him that he could stay on as coach but he would need to hire a new OC and he was not allowed to touch the offense of defense. Tell him he needed to stay the hell out of the room when they're putting the game plan together. Maybe he could coach special teams to give him something to do. Obviously there's a need there. I would even go so far as to take away his headphones during the game. You could still let him wear them, but disconnect them. If he didn't comply and we didn't see a major change, then you could fire him.
This has been done before and worked and I think it would have worked here. There's no doubt that a change needs to be made but our chances of success are much better with Miles and a completely independent hot shot OC. The alternative is trying to be the only program to ever have success immediately after firing a coach that has won over 75% of his games. Hopefully we'll be the first.

The end of Bowden's tenure was an absolute disaster. Ended up with coaches fighting with each other on the team plane. Post less.

Cut the cord with Miles completely.
Let's have a brand new chapter for LSU.

Bowden means more to FSU history than Les Miles means to LSU. I respect Miles a LOT but he didnt do here what Bowden did there. Also, you do not want an athletic director telling the coach who to hire and what rooms to go in. Either the coach is capable of doing the right thing on his own or he needs to go. Bowden should have gone before he did. He was chasing a record, plain and simple.

I understand that most of the posters here were still in diapers when Bowden won his NC in 1999 but that setup absolutely worked until 2004. I agree that after that it was a mess because he has just chasing a record. The odds of success is much better with five years of Miles as a "figure head" than rolling the dice with Jimbo.

bowden is exactly why we should move on to a new great coach..
fsu settled forever with mediocrity.. then fisher finally took over and built them back up

Are you shitting me? High level? Even if you give Bowden the 12 games that were eventually forfeited, he was 38-27 in his last 5 seasons and never lost fewer than 3 conference games.

Fitting name for your idea.

Nothing screams "respect" by telling a head coach that you are taking away his control of the program and his new offensive coordinator has full autonomy.

Rip the band aid off, Les is gone.

Even if it worked for Bowden, what in his 11 years of history would ever lead you to believe Miles could be hands off with the offense? You have 5 OCs of proof already that it wouldn't.

First, how do you know this wasn't presented to Les and he told them to frick off? You don't, and it's just one of the reasons this thread is dumb.
Second, I love how folks talk about how Bowden did great, and then they waited too long to can him and stuff. Lol. Had Bowden been here, and rolls reversed, Bowden would have never won a NC. He was in his 18th season before he ever won a NC at Florida state. It was 7 years later before he won another. He had a winning percentage of 75% before that time, less than Miles. This fan base would have shite canned him in year 5.

"HOLD ON FOR ONE MORE DAY!" (I know that there is pain)

The Bowden transition over to Jimbo was a shite storm. All that coach in waiting bullshite never works. If a team needs a coaching change, get it done and move on, no sense in dragging it out.

Wilson Phillips lyrics? Epic post.

This was presented to him in the past and yet nothing changed. As much as I like Coach Miles, he brought it up on himself.

These "solutions" are nonsense and never work.
You don't hire or keep a "CEO" and then tell him how to do his job. It just doesn't make sense at any level.
