"Leadership is a problem," he added. "A leader has to lead by example more than his mouth. This team has a lot of leading by talking and not by example."

this is my thoughts as well. Blakeny and Simmons have been playing together for a while I doubt it's Simmons he's referring to.

A very common problem when a one and done comes in. LSU problems with this team is way deeper than just JJ can't coach. No presents on the post neither offense or defense makes them beatable by pretty much any team in the nation. BS came here with way to high of expectations for a 19 year old kid to live up to, and his lack of offensive skills showed up in most every game around crunch time he kept passing the buck so to speak.

Everyone wants to point the finger at the coach at I totally get that, but at some point the players have to take some responsibility. This team doesn't have a natural leader that will drag the team and put them on his back.

At this level, it's up to the coach to develop that leadership, and rarely does that ever come from freshmen. It's also hard to develop leadership when there really isn't a "mission". The team comes down the floor for each offensive set with no idea what they're going to do or who is responsible for triggering the play.

This is why college basketball is becoming less relevant by the day. Save March Madness and does anyone really care that much anymore (and I am talking about the average fan -- not so much any of us on TD who bothers to complain about basketball). These AAU travelling teams are the beginning that paves the way to millions and a major shortcut. Ben Simmons never played a home fricking game in high school basketball!? That type of team...I do not get it. Of course, Simmons is not going to go to class for 2 semesters. He used LSU and visa versa for a rental. We thought we could land in the tourney with him; he needed a place to play.

I guess LSU should just be glad with getting him for a year. Talent like that usually doesn't get past the Atlantic Coast if it comes from way out.

This was a young team but that should be over by now. Now, with this amount of talent, CJJ must finally be held accountable. We've had some good moments with him and some very disparaging ones as well. It's obvious he's not going to take us to the next level. Likely time to part ways...especially if we get blown out in Nashville. If he can get to the SEC c'ship game, who knows?

I agree, I think accountability is a much bigger problem with this team.

I loathe Calipari, and think he represents all that is wrong with college basketball, and I don't think he's a particularly great bench coach/strategist, but he holds those prima donnas accountable. It can be done.

Sounds like they have totally fallen apart. It starts with the coach. You want real leadership, get a real coach, end of story

There is one and only person being paid for the direction of this team. It is the job of the head coach to pull the team together.

Period. Do not hang all of this on players. They need to be COACHED and that does not appear to be occurring.

It's so painfully obvious that Hornsby is the heart and soul of this team. Unfortunately he just doesn't have the same effect on the team when he's on the bench.

I said in a thread the other day that team chemistry seems to be an issue, this year and last.

All you need is a "rogue" player or two and you won't gel as a team unless the HC does everything he can to fix it. Keeping egos in check is priority #1 for the HC.

Otherwise you have inconsistent teams that blame each other when shite goes wrong and want the spotlight when things go right.

I hate to call out TQ again, but I'm pretty sure I saw a moment in this game when we had 2-3 hands going up for a tip in and when it goes in, TQ goes to backcourt holding up his hand as in, "I scored. I tipped it in."

Anyone see that or am I mistaken?

Blakeney has firmly planted himself as my favorite basketball player that's came through LSU. He's all business, and gives 100% to this team... Can't say that about anyone else not named Hornsby.
