good times.

Me too. That 2008 season was so much fun.

I remember going to Knoxville for Spring break and watching LSU get swept by Tennessee and then lose the next weekday game to SLU at the box and thinking man, this is going to be a long year.

Then late April they hit that 28 game win streak and ride it into the postseason. Hoover was great, the regionals were great, and the Super with UCI was incredible.

Or awful and flameout. Being a hardass coach that is THAT critical doesnt work all the time. It takes a special coach to make that work. Far more have failed with that technique then succeeded. Hopefully Blake is one of those that can be successful.

For anyone who said blake was harsh....are you kidding? My middle school football coach was worse than that. Yall clearly haven't played sports at any level. Nothing was even slightly bad.

Ok Mr. Hardass. Football is COMPLETELY different then baseball. Getting yelled at or put down is not necessarily going to work for a sport that takes pure precision and fine tuned skills. If you are an ounce tense you are fricked. Football, it can be used to enforce rage and aggression. Like I said before, it CAN work. But from my experience, in a sport like Baseball it usually produces failure

Are you kidding me? He is calmly talking to his team after the game. No yelling, no cursing, no dogging a kid. Just giving an honest assessment of how he felt about their effort. He's letting them know that they will be held accountable. If he's not teaching them what is acceptable and what isn't, you'd end up with a season that looks like LSU basketball.

I have been told on the rant that a coach that is too loose is not good either. You have to be jumping up and down screaming like a mad man. The truth is they both can work if the guy just is a talented teacher of whatever sport.

Let me Clarify. I do not think what he actually did was that bad. He kept it in touch. I was more responding to the discussion of how being a hardass negative coach is a good thing. I should have made that more clear

IMO Dean did it in the right way though. He wasn't talking down to them like they were kids. He wasn't getting red in the face and yelling or losing his cool. He said calmly that the expects better. Not performance, but effort. He realized he doesn't have talent so he's set the standard to be exactly what it should be: what they put into it themselves. And like I said before, he can't really do anything about this teams roster with it being so small. So he says that the effort they show this year will only hurt their chances next year. He's obviously gotten them to buy into what he's saying which is exactly what you have to do for an older team with guys who can lead by example.

I said this a couple weeks ago when talk started about how well they were doing. This won't be the year that he proves to me how good he is and can be. He's going to be extremely young next year and it will be after his first recruiting cycle. Expectations will be higher. I'll be watching and hoping he continues to meet them.

Blake was spot on. I have been told by many that Skip would tell his players straight to their face that they sucked and he wouldn't hesitate to give their spot on the team to someone else. Nothing worse than players who don't give 100% effort every time on the field. I didn't see anything wrong with his post game speech.
