When Dean hit the ball the composite bat sounded funny and the ball left like a rocket. The catcher said something to the umpire.There was nothing wrong.

FYI, the real story behind the bat was that it had "pressure cracks." The umps weren't about to disallow the single and throw out a player over that. Much to do about nothing.

The umps were checking the length & weight of the bat; that's what Hannagrif said on the radio; they weren't looking for pine tar.
