All summer long, a long list of posters were saying that Billy Gonzales was the "offensive coordinator in waiting".

I argued and said that BG has no OC expereince and that if the offense succeeded that GC wouldn't be fired, and if it didn't have success, then no one would want any hold over from the staff (except Frank Wilson for recruiting purposes). I'm starting to see a lot of posts asking what has Gonzo done and that can't catch the ball and other things like that, so with 8 games in the book, my question now is.

If Gary Crowton gets fired at the end of the season, who would want Billy Gonzales to take over as offensive coordinator?

Depends on who is available and willing to come.

Personally I would like to see LSU ditch the spread and go to a pro-style offensive system.

It would be a risk to higher someone unproven. Could be a boom or bust sort of thing. I wouldn't be happy or mad about it either way to be honest. I suppose indifferent is the best way to describe it.

Edit: Although I would prefer a pro style offense to the spread.

At this point we could hire a squirrel and not do to much worse.

We already have a tiger, could we just bring him over. The plus with the tiger is that he would have to be on the sidelines and not in the booth. Another plus would be that if someone fricked up he would chew that arse out.

No. He isn't doing his job now. Why would I want to promote him?

The problem I have is that I am not sure he has been allowed to do anything..has anyone seen any changes in philosophy ?
in performance ?

this may have been a CYA move...
I would love to find out what he can / can not do.
he had to have learned something under Urban Myers for 7 years

If BG had come from another school, would y'all still love him?

Last year he said (article on lsusports.com I believe) that the number one thing he would be working on is getting wideouts in and out of games efficiently knowing exactly what they are supposed to do (trying to find the link...but talks about the need to use less playclock and generate more snaps)

So obviously he gets a FAIL on that.

His title is Wide Receivers Coach, right? With the current QB situation I don't envy him. But to move up he should be dazzling fans with the improvement of his wide receivers. I'm not dazzled. It's not a matter of what he's allowed to do, IMHO.

plus the fact that they cant catch a cold half the time. Thats discipline. sloppy WR corps reflects coaching.

Gonzales does get a FAIL.

Fire Crowton now, and give Gonzales a chance for the remainder of the season... It cant be any worse than Crowton.... if it doesnt work out then go find another.

GC will be the coordinator next year. That's why Miles sent him to recruit the JUCO qb. He's there to convince him that if he comes they will open up the offense.

What he really means is in the playbook, he will turn to page two.

No matter who is chosen, shouldn't:

• The OC and HC be in agreement on the kind of offense to be developed?
• The OC be a good fit for the talent he has to work with?

These are not facetious questions; they're based on watching our offense these past two seasons.

Not a democracy but I vote for Coach Steve Ensminger to take over as OC. Former LSU starting QB, has OC experience at Clemson and Texas A&M (Aggies were 25-9-1 during his three years as OC including 10-0-1 in '94 and a 9-3 record in '95 and they beat Michigan in a Bowl game).

My question is why isn't HE coaching LSU QBs? He was the QB coach at Georgia, Auburn and Clemson. Why is coaching Tight Ends at LSU? Given the QB issues, seems like Les would shift him to focus on the weakest part of the offense.
